If you need to get away from it all or you are just due for a vacation, this is a great place to stay. I took my husband to the mountains for his birthday and we stayed at the Balsam Mountain Inn. If you aren't familiar with the area and can't read a map, make sure to download the area...

Balsam Mountain Inn has been a haven for us for a number of years. The serenity offered by the rustic setting and taking a step back from the rush of modern life never fails to reboot the spirit. We have a favorite bed-sitting suite with a shower that provides a cozy cocoon to read, rest, and plan our adventures. Merrily...

The inn is decorated with period specific furnishing. The hallways are very wide and decorated with old steamer trunks Loved learning about the history of this railroad property. The bathroom in the room was very tight based on updating the hotel with modern features while maintaining the integrity of the original rooms. The rocking chairs on the ground level and...

First the pros: staff was great, enjoyed front desk Debbie and the restaurant Courtneys, breakfast and dinner were better than most hotels plus live music one night. My only criticism is cleanliness - old bldg I know but the lack of cleaning behind radiators, the beds, dining RM tables, ceiling fans, bed comforters, shower walls took away from overall positive...

This place is really a step back in time. It was easy to imagine that you'd ridden the train up, stepped off and walked up the hill to check in. Rooms were nicely furnished with period pieces. Property was fine but a bit rustic. Restaurant was very good.

We visited the NC area for the color change and had been told about this Inn by friends. What awaited us was a joy. We stay at Historic Inns whenever we can, and this property moved to the top of our list for return visits. As a matter of fact, we have already booked a return trip the first week...

The 100+ B&B was VERY clean, tastefully decorated, at a beautiful site, and ran professionally. It showcases local artists and is more reasonably priced than other local places in October, especially since it's just a 7 min. drive to Waynesville. We arrived with the FL evacuees, and they didn't price-gouge us. No ac or standing shower in the room (there...

My husband and I spent a quiet, relaxed evening and night at this historic inn on our way to Asheville. It is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway about 3 hours from Atlanta. The staff are friendly and the food is excellent! Local art is displayed for sale. We enjoyed sitting in rocking chairs on the front porch absorbing the...

From the drive up to the historic old Inn, to check in, you get the feeling of stepping back in time. All the staff are helpful and friendly, breakfast is prepared well and served quickly and with a smile. Be prepared for some of the drawbacks that come with an old Inn, like small bathrooms and flooring that shows it's...

Not having a TV was hard to get used to especially for those in my party who are used to sleeping with a TV on. As for me, I was fine. No AC, okay by me because the windows being open and the box fan provided made it very comfortable to sleep. Breakfast was delicious and I'd give that an...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Read, rest, ramble and romp at the Balsam Mountain Inn! Nestled among lofty Smoky Mountain peaks just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Balsam Mountain Inn was completed in 1908 to serve the highest railway depot in the east. Restored in 1991, the inn now welcomes travelers with 50 cheerful rooms, rocker-filled porches, a fine library and gracious dining. Plump pillows and soft comforters inspire pleasant dreams! In December, 2011, the Inn came once again to be owned by Merrily Teasley, the innkeeper who restored the structure two decades ago. An experienced rescuer of wonderful buildings, Teasley bought the derelict inn in 1990, and her certified rehabilitation effort helped the inn – already on the National Historic Register – experience a rebirth. ... more   less
