What a wonderful place to meet friends for sunday afternoon drinks and a chat. The place is enchanting and the staff just lovely. Nothing was a problem and the atmosphere was extremely old world and pleasing.

Why settle for typical or mediocre when you can stay in an evolving fusion, birthed as an 1879 guest house, blended with Victorian and Art Deco, with recent rich overtones of North Africa. Hosts Mauro and Anne will welcome you to a home away from home as breakfast lingers to lunch or cocktails by the fire in the Maurocco Bar....

It had been over 20 years since our last visit to The Midland and we were unsure if it would have changed over the years. To our delight, it was even better, and remains a delicious step back in time with the emphasis on relaxation. Once again host Mauro goes above and beyond. Sensational breakfast, comfortable throughout and an abundance...

My third stay at the Midland, and my third review of it. I found the hotel just as it had been before: a wonderful one-off with friendly hosts who remember their regulars. A couple of handy hints for novice guests: 1) take a shower cap if you want to protect your hair from the overhead shower rose; 2) don't stay...

Fabulous and eclectic furnishings, big comfy bed, fluffy bathrobes, generous and friendly host. Big bathroom with an excellent hot shower across the hall from the bedroom. An amazing sitting room which we didn't have time to use.

Had a great time. We arrived on Friday morning to be greeted by our host Mauro with a lovely cafe latte and flat white. Very comfortable beds and a lovely room. The hotel has a marvellous eclectic collection of art and artifacts. We could sit in their lovely garden and enjoy our breakfast and evening drinks. It allowed us the...

Loved our stay at the Midland. They're only open Friday and Saturday nights for accommodation and they currently have four rooms. The rooms have private bathrooms but they are accessible across the corridor. This is an old building with lots of character - don't expect a bland hotel experience! The owners are super friendly and helpful - Ann and Mauro...

I returned to the Midland 12 months after my first visit and enjoyed it just as much -- in fact more, because this time I knew my way around the old building and wasn't bothered by its eccentricities. I was given the same room as before and found its furniture had been updated, the dark timbered old suite replaced by...

What an amazing find. The Midland Hotel is both quirky and spectacular all at once. We enjoyed champagne in the sunny and peaceful courtyard and then nibbles that we grabbed from the local supermarket in the stunning guest lounge before going out for dinner. If shiny and new is what you after then this place isn't for you - this...

We stayed here after deciding a weekend in Castlemaine would make a good change to the Peninsula, having neve been, and it was a delightful place to call home! The hosts Mauro and Anne were terrific and the building is a fantastic example of old world charm developing new life with an awesome and quirky mix of non-traditional decor. The...
