This B & B was spotlessly clean. The owner was there to greet us as we arrived. Richard was very nice. The rooms were very spacious. Breakfast was good value and nothing was to much trouble. If you were going to Euro park you can get your tickets here that saves you queuing up so you save time and can be there for park opening.

Spent one night here with a couple of friends before visiting Europa-Park. After booking the room, the owner emailed me to ask if he could upgrade us to the "Penthouse" ('our best room') because of a double booking. He even threw in free breakfast for the four of us. I accepted, very much looking forward to our 92 square meter apartment. I was extremely disappointed. Not only was the "penthouse" (more like an attic, strangely missing on the hotel's website) 40 square meters at best, it had sloping walls, sagging chairs and mattresses from the Cold War era. Some were way too soft, others hard as wood. Speaking of mattresses: there were only three (small) double beds, so two of us had to get cozier than we liked. We slept miserably. But the best was yet to come. At breakfast (mediocre) the next day we were greeted with a firm 'Ah, there are the noisy boys!!' Stunned, we asked what he meant. Apparently, he and his wife couldn't sleep because we kept them up all night. There are a couple of problems with that claim I'd like to mention. - We got back to the hotel around midnight and went to sleep about half an hour later. - Given the deplorable state of the wooden floor, it's entirely possible that they heard us move around while brushing our teeth. How is that our fault? - Why didn't they knock if we caused them so much agony? I have never been treated with such disdain at a guesthouse before. The owners are clearly unfit to work in the hospitality industry. If you don't mind sleeping on worn beds and fancy being yelled at in broken English, by all means, stay at Alba. The Noisy Boys won't be back.

For a couple of nights stay with a visit to the Europa Park, this was more than adequate. It was a good walk to the park (15 minutes or so) but there was a voucher for one day parking and the second day we paid €5 so reasonable enough. Price could have been better, but then it's in line with many of the other guest houses in the area as clearly Europa Park allows them to charge inflated prices.

Due to very severe thunder storms in Stuttgart we were forced to bring forward our onward journey to Rust arriving at Gästehaus Alba over two hours earlier than originally planned on booking five months earlier. Since it was still raining on our arrival we thought having paid € 475 for four nights (excl. breakfast) and otherwise having to wait with two young children for hours in the car might persuade the owners of Gästehaus Alba to let us have the keys to our already prepared flat earlier than expected… Big mistake – the host made it very clear that she did not appreciate having one of her rare rest periods disturbed (no customer service between 11am and 5pm) and only reluctantly handed over the keys to our cellar flat. Our flat was clean, the furniture and equipment were dated (though in good working order) but when we enquired regarding the advertised free Wifi we were advised that technical reasons prevented any reception in our rented accommodation and that the only reception was outside the house (next to the road)… Despite the above experience we still enjoyed our visits to the Europapark and several trips to see friends in Freiburg. My final word of advice for future guests at Gästehaus Alba is to obey the house rules to the letter, to leave your flat as clean and tidy as you possibly can and don’t forget to empty all the bins too, unless you prefer being hit by a heavy exit penalty to have your rubbish disposed of by the cleaner…
