We did stay here for 2 nights in the month of September and I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again. We have been visiting a lot (walks, scenic drive, boat tour) and we regret we did not have the time to chill out with a drink on the beautiful terrace they have. Location: On the main road but at night there was not much traffic. I am a very light sleeper but we did not have any problems with street noise. In the evening, the charming village of Piana was at walking distance. Check in: We arrived before check in time and inquired about walks and the owner was very helpful. We followed his lead on what to do during our stay and have the feeling we really got everything out of our stay in Piana so we would like to thank him for his advise. Rooms: Nice room with excellent beds - nice balcony with seating area (people who go to their room pass by the balcony so not private but this did not bother us) - great shower Parking: Free parking Breakfast: Excellent breakfast with very original products and seating on the terrace with great views . Due to Covid, we could take a seat and they came to get each party one by one to get served. I find it difficult to put this into words, but breakfast was rather a stressful start of the day for us. The hotel was fully booked and French is not our mother tongue. We had to think very hard not to forget anything and coming to the buffet a second time was frankly not encouraged. The advantage of their rushed behavior is that we did not have to wait long. I certainly don't want to blame them because it is also a very difficult situation for the owners. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and I would certainly recommend the hotel.

We were so pleased to arrive here after a wonderful 5 days walking the Mare y Mare long distance footpath from Corte. Nice room with modern bathroom and incredible view. The young girl on reception was very helpful. But then we made the mistake of taking the evening meal in the restaurant. The owner served us and was unpleasant and appallingly rude to us from the start. Every request was treated with disdain. Snapping at us when we asked for things and ridiculing our french. We’d decided to eat here because of specific dishes on the very limited menu. When we ordered the tuna for the first course he snapped...’there’s none left’ This at 7.45 pm.. no apologies or confirmation of what he did have. So I had to ask. He then snapped.. so you only came for the tuna? The same with ordering beer and wine. We’d been placed in the middle of a longish table with two other couples alongside at both ends, so it was very uncomfortable anyway, with everybody listening. He seemed to be deliberately playing to the gallery... then the final straw when we asked for wine.. he refused to let us have our bottle of wine on the table although the other couple on our table had there’s... placing it on a cupboard behind us. My husband got up to get it and the owner snatched it back off the table and said... it’s I who serve you, I decide when you drink..., We’d had enough.. humiliated and upset. So we got up to leave. He was angry, but we just weren’t prepared to sit through his arrogant and rude treatment, particularly on our last evening after a hard days walk. We don’t know if it was us because he saw us as English? He was very attentive to the mainly French guests. We saw other reviews this has been an issue. The next morning when we tried to have breakfast.. he barred our way menacingly and ordered us to pay for the meal and leave.. refusing us breakfast, even though we’d already paid for it through the agency. We’d always planned to pay for the meal..even though we’d had to go out to find another restaurant the same evening because of the difficulties. So we were turfed out of the hotel at 9 in the morning with our suitcases.. and nowhere to go until 5 when we’d already ordered and paid for a taxi to pick us up to go to the airport for our late flight... It was all incredibly upsetting. The first time we’ve ever had treatment like this, or walked out of a restaurant , or been refused breakfast! We’re seasoned travellers who’ve travelled for work and leisure extensively, and stayed in wonderful hotels across Europe and beyond. We’re in our mid sixties. Both with very responsible jobs, just approaching retirement. It was a terrible experience that spoilt our lovely walking holiday. Such a pity, given the lovely position of the hotel and the village..Not to be repeated..

Response from lafleurdeschamps, Gérant at Hotel Scandola

Miss, Mister, So, you decide to do some critics about the hotel, and mostly about me, it’s a real pleasure to answer. - 1 French language is complicate, and my English is not very good. It is very difficult for us to understand each other. You didn’t understand what I said. - 2 I have never ridiculed you. You did it by yourself by making a scene in the restaurant. The client near wasn’t laughing at me. Remember it. - 3 It was 8h30 p.m. and not 7h45 p.m. the plate was a tartar and yes, we didn’t’ have enough. Fresh product requires. Especially this evening where we were full. - 4 “a very limited menu” is five starters, five main courses, four kind of cheese and five desserts. If it’s limited for you, not for us. - 5 arrogant and rude. Look up people in their eyes when you have to say hello. You’ll see, they will be more sympathetic. - 6 the table is an Iroko table made for 14 persons. You were six on it. A lot of people appreciate it. - 7 the restaurant place is 40 m²… everybody is listening to everyone. I have never forced you to eat here. - 8 I have never refused to give your bottle. Being the owner, I take everything I want in my fridge. - 9 the French language… you didn’t understand. I didn’t refuse to let you drink, I served you wine. In a little restaurant like our, we serve the drinks, so the customers have nothing to do. - 10 Humiliated? I didn’t do anything for that. You made a scandal and each client in the restaurant were disturbed by your humor. You made yourself in this situation. - 11 I wasn’t angry, you were. - 12 English, Russian, Deutsch, French… Do you really think it matters for me? I was born in France, I lived In Africa in four different country, in England and in Corsica… I speak with French people because it’s simpler for me. Sorry, I am not a “fluent English”. - 13 You are “seasoned travelers”? You really think that making scandal in institution no matter what without consequences? Not here. - 14 The other trip advisors’ critics… You can see all my answers. - 15 It’s intolerable that nowadays you can think of taking us in hostage. We strive to give the best of ourselves. But if it doesn’t suit you and you think we are slaves to your blackmail; I beg you to believe that you are mistaken. Conclusion : - Yes, I refused the breakfast, - Yes, because I still have the right to protect my customers from a scandal, - Yes, I served you wine, - No, I didn’t steal it, - Yes, the atmosphere wasn’t good tonight, and you were at the center of it, - Yes, we didn’t have enough of tuna tartar, - Yes, there was something else to eat, - No, I never sold you the restaurant or forced to eat, - Yes, I have the right to not accept the situation, - No, I’m not sorry at all.

This place really went beyond expectations. It is tastefully decorated. It has the friendliest staff that we met in all of Corsica, especially Coralie. The views are magnificent. We stayed in room 6, with a beautiful patio facing the mountains and the sea. The breakfast buffet is included with the room and has everything we could possibly want, served on a terrace with gorgeous views of the town of Piana and the red rocks behind it. Overall, an amazing stay!

This hotel is located on the main road and within 5 min walk to the town of Piana. The hotel is better than 3-star, super clean with very comfortable beds and shower. We had a suite on the 2nd floor with a balcony that had a postcard perfect view of the coast. The room is not big, but everything is functioning well. In particularly, the bathroom is super bright and pleasant, and the shower was really comfortable with good quality toiletries. The most impressive part of our stay was the food. The dinner was of high quality with local specialties. The breakfast was also outstanding. I cannot praise the croissant and breads enough, which were made fresh in house by its own kitchen. Their croissant was as good as the best croissants I have had in Paris. The owner showed apparent pride in his kitchen and baking ability---fully justified! The service was good. The owner and staff all speak excellent English. My kid speaks French, but even if we did not, we would have received excellent service nonetheless. I highly recommend this hotel. This is the most beautiful part of Corsica. I wish I could spend more time here.
