This was our last island visit and we were sad on arrival to learn that avian flu had been detected. This island is special, it’s the crème de la crème with a cherry on the top in our view!

We had 2 nights but arrived late on the first day so we did our tour on the next day. It’s definitely worth booking the tour so that you have the opportunity to spot wildlife with a guide. We saw a short-eared owl on our adventure along with many usual suspects.

The main attractions are a short walk away to North and South Beach, Orca Pool. A pod had been spotted early morning and so we set our sights on getting up early, 3.30 am and headed off. At 4.50 am Lola’s pod (5 Orca) arrived feeding and doing surveillance along South Beach. We observed the pod for 2.5 hours, there was no predation of the seals, but lots of activity within the pod.

We enjoyed seeing the magical Magellanic penguins hiding in the grasses and darting passed elephant seals to get into the sea - and hearing the sound of braying that makes them so comical.

There is an abundance of striated caracara we were head to head with them on most of our walks and got some unbelievable close-ups.

The accommodation is clean and comfortable with a nice lounge for all to share.

Food quality and quantity was lacking - probably the least good of our island visits. The veggie options had no taste and portions were tiny. Packed lunch was a doughy roll, very dry, and not sufficient. We are not ‘big’ eaters at all and felt shortchanged. Luckily we had brought our own snacks.

Some good

We stayed here for 3 nights in November 2024 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We arrived mid-morning from Bleaker Island and Micky gave us an introductory talk and coffee in the lounge, explaining about avian flu sadly present and the few out of bounds areas because of this. It did not detract from our visit at all, thankfully most areas were not affected.

As the weather was so nice we decided to take the introductory island tour the next day and both before and after a sandwich lunch we walked to one of the beaches and the wonderful birds and sealions. So many wildlife sites were a short walk from the lodge.

The tour to the further sites on the island was very good and for most of our visit the weather was sunny but as usual there it was very windy. We loved Sea Lion Island and the wildlife. It is a very special place.

The lodge itself is really lovely, our room nicely furnished with a good bathroom. The whole lodge is lovely and warm and cosy.

At mealtimes we shared a table with another couple, the atmosphere was very friendly and the food more than adequate. They kindly catered for my lactose free diet requirements brilliantly. One of the waiters did not speak English which was slightly awkward and the main language there but otherwise it was very nice.

In summary a really lovely enjoyable stay.

Stayed for 3 nights.

Very nice welcome talk from Micky.

Very good size room, with plenty of storage and space. Nice bathroom. We had an issue with the shower on the first morning, which was fixed within 15 minutes of reporting it.

Breakfast is very good, with a choice of cooked or porridge, with juices, cereals, and toast etc.

Dinners were very very tasty and creative. But despite being a very credible three courses, was modest in terms of size.

The lodge has undergone work since I was last here, and is better for it.

Honesty bar with good selection of drinks. Lovely lounge with panoramic views.

5 x penguins, southern elephant seals, sea lions, cormorants, and a wide range of land and sea birds. And these are all walkable - assuming basic fitness and footwear.

One of the best places in the Falklands. If not the best.

Our second stay at this lodge and still the best! Fronted by Micky and Jackie a warm welcome is guaranteed. All staff are friendly and helpful.
Food was excellent. Honesty bar now stocks the local brew (Falklands Beerworks ale)
The honesty bar is the best set up of any of the lodges we have stayed at.
The bedroom and shower are a bit on the small side but the bed has to be the most comfortable I've slept in for years.
With the wildlife on your doorstep or within easy walking distance who could ask for anything else?

Sea Lion island is remote and wild. It is the most southerly inhabited island in the Falkland Islands. I stayed at the Sea Lion Lodge lodge 3 nights. I must say that all the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The lodge has good community space with plenty of nice books to read. Thank you for your efforts in making my stay so enjoyable. Sea Lion Island is small but it packs a 'big punch'. The island is flat and there are a number of walks to enjoy. There are beaches, rocky outcrops and various inland pools. The wildlife is everywhere for you to enjoy - Gentoo, magellanic and rockhopper penguins, sea lions, elephant seals and numerous birds. I am sure that you will enjoy your stay here and that you will not regret visiting this wonderful island.

First visit to Sealion Island and Sea Lion Lodge since the late 90s. It was good back then it is fantastic now. Rooms are straightforward but really comfortable, love the comfy bed 👏👏. Facilities are all there and the staff friendly and helpful (and a fount of local knowledge). Fantastic walks and wildlife, great trails all signposted. Thanks Mickey and Sarah, and Ali and staff. Best break we had for a long long time..

We had one night here, wish we had booked longer! The gentoo & magellenic penguins are close to the lodge & so fabuous to watch. Walked amongst the elephant seals & pups. Saw the striated caraca, giant petrels & a host of other smaller birds. For such a small island we walked for miles. Richard our host was wonderful, driving us to the HMS Sheffield memorial to see the rockhoppers & king cormorants. What an amazing sight. Next landfall Antartica. The lodge is luxury in such a remote location, from the welcoming tea & cakes as soon as we arrived, to the amazing evening meal and the honesty bar. From the time Richard greeted us from the plane, to the very late evening chatting & drinking in the lounge enjoying the company of the other guest, the comfort of the rooms, the wildness of the landscape it was a truly wonderful experience. You want to get up early & just get out amongst the wildlife. The lodge provides packed lunches so you can stay out all day. It is not a cheap place to stay, but it is worth it. I am so pleased we had the opportunity to stay here, if only for one night & would love to stay again. The only downside - we had to leave!!

Only spent one night at Sea Lion Lodge, but what a great day and night...
Jenny was a superb host and introducer to her lodge and nature reserve...It was the best location of any place I have visited in the world.
The thought of getting up at 4am in my "normal world" to potentially see a pod of Orca whales, would not even register as being an option..
Having however sat on a clear white beach with a my friend Jon and a gentleman called Neil from Australia the previous afternoon and having penguins come to with 2 feet of me lying on the beach meant that the 4am did not seem to strange..
The total highlight of my week long HOLIDAY to the FALKLANDS was seeing 3/4 Orca whales the following morning at around 5am..
The WHOLE STAFF AT THE SLL made the whole experience one I personally will never forget...

This really is a home from home - from tea and cakes, to home cooked meals, comfortable rooms and beds and an honesty bar. Considering you can't just pop down to the local supermarket for supplies, the Manager does a great job in making sure guests have everything they want. The wildlife is superb - penguins, seals, sea lions, birds and we were lucky to see Killer Whales and Dolphins. We yomped miles each day and a warm bath and hot meal were most welcome. This is certainly not on the average tourist trail but if you get the opportunity to do, you won't regret it.

June Wanjugu W asked a question Sept 2016
16 September, 2016 To Heads of Organizations Re: Gay & Lesbian Activity of the United States of America & East African Politics As you know by now, we are in the middle of a very serious male transvestite and transsexual problem everywhere on earth. I'm personally bitter about it, because it was started by whites and their imposters who were located in the United States of America, and who wanted to perpetuate a white lifestyle there, including forcing women to lick genitalia, excrement etc. It's a barbaric form of politics, and my anger arises from the fact that they requested political help from Asian men here in New Zealand. Many of the Asians however, do believe that the white imposters were wrong in the first place, and therefore we are making progress towards removing the vile way of life. The phenomenon has featured imitating women, and them blaming them for actually wanted to lick genitals and excrement. That has been a serious problem which has given rise to publicity about gay and lesbian politics which we first wrote about a few years ago when I was being quarrelled with by a former baseball player called Ron Darling who used to play for the New York Mets baseball team. At the time, he was involved in gay & lesbian activity although he and other whites and Americans and Europeans have not given proper thought to what they were doing. Another problem is that the problem of gay and lesbianism was piggybacking on racial and ethnic politics, and the whites were essentially blaming blacks for gay and lesbianism, sexual crime and immorality. The problem does now continue because some East Africans such as Dwight Hicks want to perpetuate sexual and racial beating of women, and he's to be killed shortly. As you know, women cannot imitate men, but men can imitate women, and they are doing so currently, and that causes sexual revulsion because in addition to imitating women, they also force sexual acknowledgement of imitated vaginas. That's something which women do not do to one another. The other thing of course is that women do not want to have sexual liaisons with other women, and therefore I believe that they whole platform of lesbianism should be removed from the sexual agenda of these transsexuals. Another thing which we also want is for the imitation of women to stop. Not only will it stop sexual revulsion and the malice which Hicks wanted to force on us, but there are legal problems of sexual defamation as well. For example, advertising and financial enrichment. These men are being paid large sums for advertising the cosmetics which are generally sold to and for women. That is a political bias of society which has got to stop. The advertising is photographed as sexually acceptable forms of behaviour for women. Forcing women to have to look at women as sexual partners is very cruel. Other social problems took place after I was forced out of the state of New Jersey to go and live in Texas where I now believe that although it was transsexuals who engineered the attack, there were women who were also forced to behave improperly. The attack also had a colour bias, as previously mentioned. Anyway, while living there, my former state of New Jersey whose governor was a white transsexual called Christine Todd Whitman signed into law a bill which permitted couples of same gender to adopt children. I learned of the law from a televised newscast one morning which also mentioned that what was called a female couple had adopted a boy. Now, the two adults were in fact male transsexuals who were slandering women. I do not know why the transsexuals insisted on the slander, but it is wrong. The adoption therefore meant that the adopted boy, if at all there was one, was to be raised in a home where eating of faeces was being practised. That is the wrong environment in which to raise a child, and women should not be blamed for doing such as a thing. We simply do not even have the political clout, among other things, to accomplish that type of legislative change, nor do we want to practise lesbianism. The church's role in the raising of children has also annoyed me. Just around the corner is a Presbyterian church which is called St. Matthew's Presbyterian Church. We wrote to the church about a decade ago, as well as to St. Paul's Anglican Church and to St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church. All of these churches are located within Auckland Central. As you know, my early childhood years were spent within a Presbyterian diocese at Tumu Tumu, Kenya. The local diocese advertises a gay and lesbian service, and I would like to ask the parishes to stop having such services due to the harm to society. You do understand of course, that these services are only for men, as there are no lesbians, per se, only men who imitate me out of malice and an unjustfiable hatred. Politically, the way in which people dress is an issue because in many places, men and women look different. However in some places, their clothes are similar, however their actual appearance is different. Moral and legal issues are the reason for that, as well as the need to procreate. Sincerely, June Wanjugu Opeto 13/88 Nelson St. Auckland Central, Auckland New Zealand.
