We spent 3 fantastic days at the Retreat and had a wonderful time there. Having visited more than a Dozenten of Lodge in various NP in Tanzania, we ca truly say that the Retreat is just outstanding for its Level of Bungalows, its breathtaking location and unique architecture. Our very spacious bungalow was just near the river, allowing to watch...

The Retreat Selous - as the name suggest is surely a Retreat of the senses....from the breathtaking views of the Ruaha River, the flowing river, the unique spa treatments that you will not find elsewhere, the balance of the 5 elements of nature; The Retreat has it all! The feeling you get when you arrive to a welcome fit for...

We stayed in The Retreat for 4 nights and saw a pride of 13 lion, elephants and hippos aplenty! Cesair, the guide, was exceptional and Helen, the lady who gave us food and smiles, was very kind and welcoming. The view from our room was nothing short of magical and the boat safari gave us a very close encounter with...

Magical Experience The experience was wonderful, really more than words can express. From the moment I arrived I felt drawn in by the warm welcome, friendly staff, breathtakingly beautiful hotel design, and amazing location which provides the most personal vantage point for watching all the wild life you can imagine. I shared my nightcap with hippos, only apparent from their...

The place is beautiful, a Dutch fortress converted into a beautiful heritage jungle lodge. It's located on a hill close to the Rufiji river, but they have riverside luxury camp / cottage type accommodation. It's right inside the wildlife park, and is about 30 min drive away from the airstrip. The drive to and fro is a mini jungle safari...

This place became our second home. We love the tranquility and views, the sounds when you wake up, the food (wich is extraordinary), the staff,...and a lot more. It's not mass tourism and if you see a lion, it's just you and the lion. There are less animals as the serengeti but the wildlife experience is so much more real....

This was our first safari experience and I can't imagine how anything could ever surpass this. We spent three days at The Retreat and all the staff were totally amazing, in particular, Fabiano was extremely efficient, professional and friendly. He was able to make us feel left to our own devices but was there the second we needed anything. We...

The room was perfect bearing on mind that it was miles from any neighbour. Electricity to charge our cameras and solar hot water for showers. Perfect views and a short walk for the dining area. We were escorted after dark by a Masai. Food was very good with reasonably priced wines and other drinks. Lunch on the lake was a...

We have occasionally found The Retreat while making our plans for a Safari vacation in Tanzania, and surfing at internet , among many destinations in Tanzania. The first thing that has impressed us, was professionally designed web site of the lodge, that gave us full trust about the quality and high level of standards , and definitely differs from many...

It is a nice experience but you really need to enjoy being in PURE nature. You are sleeping in the wild. It was a great experience with top level staff. If you have a problem with insects near you while you sleep this is not for you. Recommended 2-3 days is more than enough as the only activity available is...
