We discovered Berg hotels back in 1983 but we failed dismally to stay at the Cavern. Our loss! We visited recently with the a party from the UK Ramblers and loved every moment. We can't understand why anyone would not like this hotel, although I guess it is necessary to wind down and relax a bit to fully enjoy it...

Classic never goes out of fashion. And the Cavern is classic drakensberg. Always a pleasure to go back to. Loads of activities, perfectly located for hikes in the Royal Natal Park, cosy drakensberg atmosphere and big enough so that other people's children don't annoy you! Food is homely and wholesome rather than fine dining. Excellent wine selection at good prices....

We visited the Cavern as a couple as we wished to do some hiking in the Drakensberg. The hotel is in a lovely location. We had a gatehouse suite which was spacious with a lounge area but we found the room to be quite dark and uninviting. The hotel was quite sprawling with good facilities and seemed very good for...

We spent 7 days as a family holiday to relax and unwind. The Cavern exceeded our expectations in every respect. Very well run establishment offering everything we needed and more, in a tranquil and scenic setting. Facilities were comfortable and well maintained. Service was excellent. Food and beverages world class, with a menu that varied daily to keep one looking...

5 star treatment from all the staff from the minute we arrived at the resort gates. Our room was just as it was shown in the brochure, fresh, clean and welcoming. The location was along good roads, and very easy to walk around once in the resort. The teas and meals were all included and of 5 star quality. We...

My husband and I stayed at The Cavern for 4 nights. We had been trying for years to get accommodation here but because of its popularity had difficulty in getting a booking. The setting is beautiful and we were lucky enough to get a unit in the 70's section near the forest. We spent our days walking the numerous trails,...

We popped down from Johannesburg for a long weekend, a bit apprehensive about the condition of the R74. There was a section of gravel but it was in good condition so no issue at all. I've been to The Cavern once before and enjoyed it just as much this time. Beautiful views, amazing hikes and loads for the kids to...

Dear Sparrow101 Many thanks for reviewing us! You'll be pleased to know that the R74 is completely refurbished past Sterkfontein Dam making us an easy 3.5hr trip from Gauteng. There is just one short stop-go on the Pass. There certainly is loads to do and this valley provides a wonderful space for families to unwind and bond. We look forward...

The only things we were not happy with was some of the meals that were served. Especially dinner. The buffet meals for lunch was pretty good. Also, we were not very happy seeing dogs walking around in the eating area. Not very hygienic. The rest was absolutely fantastic. The staff were extremely accommodating and very friendly. A place we would...

Dear Nisarnrb Thank you for reviewing The Cavern. We have chosen to keep our evening meal as a served meal - we just find that it means one can sit down, relax and enjoy each other's company without worrying about queuing for food! To have a bit of variety lunch is always a lighter buffet with many folk enjoying the...
