We went to the Hamptons for a womans get away and stayed at the 1708 House. "We were only going to stay two nights but ended up staying three. Skip was a wealth of information and was a cordial host. I think Southampton is better than West Hampton. Better shops, less NYCish and a nice hometown. I live in Marblehead, MA which is like heaven on earth but Southampton is a close second.

First of all, the location is excellent and you can stroll through town without using a car. Everything you might want or need is within walking distance! The owners were antique dealers prior to running this charming inn so 1708 House is chock full of lovely period American furniture. There is a wonderful country breakfast included int eh room rate served in their lovely dining room streaming with light. We stayed here often when we were renovating our house in Southampton so we know all the places to stay and this is by far the best!

This was the best vacation we have ever had. We rented a cottage and it was pristine. The management and owner were very hospitable and welcoming. The food was wonderful and afternoon was refreshing after spending the day shopping in-town. Everyone was helpful in suggesting where to go and what to do next. Definitely the best experience ever. I would suggest this to anyone. Also handicap friendly. Please put this on your bucket list of things to do before you die.

Fantastic location. Friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful, private, and clean accommodations. We are always nervous about traveling with our 2 year old as we need a separate room for her since she is a light sleeper, and we are always wary about waking other guests up in the mornings. We stayed in cottage 12 and that addressed all of our needs perfectly. Perfect location to go for a walk and window shop and grab a bite to eat. Breakfast in the mornings should definitely be considered more than continental as they have many delicious offerings including eggs made-to-order during our stay. Highly recommend staying here!!!

Last December after Christmas, the Midwest and East Coast experienced a blizzard. I had reservations to stay at the 1708 House, but my flight from another state was canceled and I was unable to return to New York in time to make my reservation. I phoned the 1708 House to explain the situation, and the owner answered. He could not have been more accommodating. We obtained a very flexible credit for future use, which we applied to a later stay. The situation described in an earlier review about difficulty encountered during the hurricane is not at all representative of anything we've ever experienced during many stays at the 1708 House. It has always been a very pleasant experience, and I would highly recommend it.

I just returned from a 2nd visit to The 1708 House in two months. That should tell you something. In the heart of Southampton among modernities, here lies this immaculate "five century" home turned Inn. The owner has clearly put painstaking time into every detail of this original 1648 home with impressive period renovations. The bathrooms are of European quality, the original wood work is brilliantly cared for, and the rooms are airy and light. When I arrived late in the night, I was so impressed, the owner was happy to give a tour beginning with the wine cellar - ( the original basement) . If you enjoy early American history, appreciate impeccable restorations, or you just want a nice balance with the latest in-style everything on Main street, this place is for you.

We were moved here after Box Farm let us down (big time!!), but what a stroke of luck. Loved everything about the 1708 house. Couple of mins walk to shops and restaurants, yet never troubled by noise. Staff friendly and helpful but not intrusive. Public areas beautiful, filled with antiques and very comfortable - loved the cellar games room. After stressful journey greeted with cold drinks and tea and biscuits, which was soon replaced by wine and cheese. Breakfasts were wonderful, everything you could want. Rooms very comfortable. Beach pass to coopers beach included (otherwise parking would have been $40) which was a beautiful beach. Oh, and fireflies in the garden! Definitely coming back again!! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I have to say that I was really surprised at how much we enjoyed our stay at 1708 Inn. Our room was really lovely and the queen bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was fine, could use some counter space but it didn't detract from our enjoyment of the room. It was very quiet (love). The owners are pleasant and non intrusive which we like, we like to be a little private. The wine and cheese was an added bonus and my poached eggs were done perfectly every morning. This is a place that you could come alone or as a couple or family and feel right at home. Next time we come I would like to explore the cottages at the back as they looked really cute. The Inn is a short walk to fabulous boutique ( not cheap but some great designer's) shopping and Cooper's Beach which was

My good girlfriend and I were very exited about a getaway to Southampton. We had read a couple of good reviews about this establishment, and felt lucky to have gotten the very last room for the weekend we chose to stay there. By way of background, my girlfriend and I are professional women in our late 20's / early 30's, have an MBA from a top tier institution, and were raised with manners and in good homes. As such, by this point in our lives, clearly we know how to behave ourselves and to treat others with respect. In return, we expect others to treat us with a similar level of respect as as grown adults. Unfortunately, on Sunday morning of our stay, the owner's daughter proved that she was incapable of such. When I came downstairs to the kitchen for a glass of water at

Every story has two sides and one would hope that each is presented fairly and accurately. That being said, the review of “AshleyL33” contains many discrepancies and exaggerations, and fails to address all the facts, including that on the very same day of her check-out, the “unexpected room charges” were voided (with an email sent notifying her and friend of this); and, also, the fact that the reviewer and her friend left a note for our housekeepers, together with a bottle of wine, stating “Our stay was lovely. Thank you for everything! Best….” Quite a contradiction to the statements contained in her review! We are sorry that our disgruntled visitor did not take the opportunity to calmly discuss the actual events with management, as we pride ourselves on trying to resolve problems which arise with an extremely small percentage of our guests. We welcome the opportunity to do so at any time.
