the dog never came downstairs to the guest rooms, and was never on the furniture while we were there. the family do not have cats (I wish they did!). for what it may be worth, the house is open, airy, and spacious.
It's about a 15 minute drive to the center of town. We didn't mind this at all because there isn't a ton of nightlife that would motivate you to be right in town, and there is easy parking in town as well.
