Extremely disappointed,.Particularly with lobster chowder, $$$$ plus smallest portion. All meals were marginal. Overrated now been there in the passed. Suggest trip advisor reconsider its rating. Plus it was a 50 mile trip.

We had an amazing experience at the American Hotel last night. We Went to Sharon Springs to look around. We were visiting the area with friends for the weekend. While the wives did some shopping the husbands headed over to the American Hotel for a drink. They had a great time at the bar with George and when the wives... More

I booked the spa package which was amazing. It included two 60 minute massages at the neighboring Spring House Spa (note: you need to set up your spa appt.) It also included a four course dinner and breakfast. Both meals were open to anything they had to offer on the menu. I was pleasantly surprised because many package deals have... More

My husband and I chose the American Hotel based on reviews (and I didn't want to stay in a traditional B&B when we went to the Book Village in Hobart) and the 5 star reviews here didn't do the hotel justice. We only stayed one night about two weeks ago but now I wish we had stayed for at least... More

What a wonderful place. Kind, Peaceful and truly genuine in every way. Headed up for a wedding the weekend arriving at 8pm on a damp, rainy, night it was the perfect place to arrive. From our delectable dinner in the restaurant to the quiet comfy room. Breakfast was super good with 6 solid choices each one better than the next,... More

One of the nicest experiences...A beautiful 1800's restored property. Garth and Doug are the finest hosts we have ever met. Garth {also the Mayor of Sharon springs} gave us the stories of the hotel..Re: the haunted guest...He also cooked us a beautify breakfast on our departure... Fresh blueberry pancakes with bacon...and French toast with blueberry sauce/// Quite an experience/// If... More

Staying at the American hotel is worth a trip from anywhere. It's like stepping into another time. The rooms are tiny, but nicely appointed, the innkeepers make you feel as if they've known you forever. Ordinarily, I don't like inns and don't want to get chummy with innkeepers, but these guys have the right combination of friendliness and respecting your... More

We chose this place based on reviews here and having seen it on purple roofs while attending the Glimmerglass Festival. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful - from the bartender to the owners. The room was OK, but since we booked last minute got the only room available. I would not recommend this - book in advance and get... More
