Lovely old house and wonderful bed and breakfast experience. Beth is the perfect host- warm and helpful. We had a delicious, hearty breakfast before we left for our Bars College visit. The beds were comfortable and the house well appointed.
The room doors don't lock. You can't secure your room when you're away, and there isn't even a chain to lock the door when you're inside. I certainly understand that vintage buildings have quirks which add to their charm, but in general the Inn seems in need of TLC starting with basics like locking doors, updated window units, newer mattresses, and fixing rusted and loose bathroom fixtures. The owner was lovely, the location is convenient to restaurants nearby, but that was not enough to outweigh feeling unsafe due to lack of locks, and uncomfortable due to the deferred maintenance.
This lovely victorian bed and breakfast is so authentic you would expect a ghost to prowl the stairways and rattle around the upper floors. Ah, but not so. The beds, bathroom fixtures and services are all very much up-to-date. Enjoy the excellent breakfast and feel free to lounge on the front porch or walk into town. The Grand Dutchess is conveniently located off the main road and within easy access to lovely shops and restaurants. The beds are so comfortable you you will be tempted to extend your stay.
Another B&B recommended the Grand Duchess so we were delighted to get a last-minute room. Beth, one of the owners, greeted us and was helpful in recommending places for dinner. The room was well-furnished and charming. No TV. The bathroom was clean, the soap luscious, the towels okay, the shower water hot. Disappointments: no coffee in the morning, nor was there anyone to ask about breakfast. We decided to eat breakfast at the "historic" Red Hook Diner just down the road, which was a good call.
happened upon this while searching for the wirld largest kaleidescope and the Rhinebeck Aerodrome for a getaway weekend. As stated by other guests the house is like a Victorian museum. The rooms were fantastic. As we were the only guests the time we visited we saw all the other rooms. Breakfast each morning was great. We could have walked into downtown, if not for the rain. we will be staying here again.
