The lyrics to the Billy Joel song went through my head when the train pulled into Montauk, past the McMansions and the Days Inn clones."There ain't no Island left for Islanders like me." But there's still the Sail Inn, out by the harbor. Homey, friendly, no-frills. Just a warm welcome, a lovely clean room and good food and drink

Stayed for two nights here and was very impressed! Staff was so accommodating and owner was very helpful with places to visit. Rooms are spacious and clean, restaurant serves great food and the bar is full of amusing and interesting locals. Had a great stay! Highly recommend it.

Thankfully the Sail Inn had a room for us when the sound view room we booked was over booked so we were stranded. After reading other reviews I have to agree, one of the most reasonable rates but sorry, not worth it. Upon arrival, the front entrance was littered with cigarette butts. Once inside, the bar keep/room booking assistant was... More

By far, the best bargain in Montauk!!! George, the owner, is also a great cook and each day after a long day, we would come back to the Inn for a delicious dinner, a drink, and good conversation. The Sail Inn is a favorite of the locals too, so you get to meet some of the wonderful locals and hear... More

Montauk has changed from the days I first went there in the Seventies. Progress? The jury is out on that one, but step inside this cozy Inn and Restaurant and you can be transported back to the pre-glitz and hipster days. Funky fish and bar chotzkas abound - I think George (the owner) must have the lock on the shot... More

We have been going here for the last 5 years. If your look glitz and glamour this is not for you. If you're looking to get up in the morning hit the beaches then come back and shower then hit The Harvest this is for you. We will be back in August again

Yes it could be updated a little but then they would have to raise prices.... Bottom line was a clean, comfy room with tv and wi fi, the owner was more than nice to tell me about some very cool places to visit. There was a bar restaurant down stairs that had allot of fun decorations. I stayed two nights... More

Mom and pop style motel. A short bike ride into town/beach. Close to fishing and great restaurants. Simple rooms, but CLEAN. The owner is a little quirky, but he and his wife are very nice people!!! Enjoy!

If your looking for amenities which emulate a stay in city finery Sail Inn is not for you. If you instead seek a stay in old montauk look no farther. Sail Inn echoes what much of montauk has lost in recent years. It does not carry the same new age facade that has come about recently. George is one of... More
