The location is great, beautiful view of the beach and lovely thatched house roof. The kitchen area is the owners personal kitchen, a bit spartan but lot's of old charm. The patio is great for sun downrers and ton eat there. Close by you have a blow hole in the ocean and it requires a bit of climbing to get... More

The view is stunning and situated in a prime location in Port Saint Johns. The hostess was very friendly and accommodating. The accomodation is ideally suited for a couple. The place is also pet friendly.

We stayed here for one night only. After veeery looong drive from Joburg and the few local restaurants in St Johns being closed, Kat, our host, revived us with great chat and cheesy toast! Rooms clean and comfy, bathrooms basic but fine. No food or bar facilities here but, again, fine if you know to bring your own. Port St... More

We booked end oktober 2015, including a guaranty of our credit card. Received confirmation. We arrived 15.45 hrs. So nice in time but the landlady said simply that she justgave our room to somebody else, period. A breach of hospitality!, we put in a complaint with/by Booking.com and were guite shockeed and angry. This adress you can NOT rely on.

The location is simply great. But, there is nothing else positive to add. No services, plenty of voracious mosquitos in the unbearable heat at night, noise ad nauseam, tiny little rooms that are not cleaned during the day and, above all, a horrible feeling of summer camp festival when all went wrong.

We stayed two nights at Lodge on the Beach as part of a longer trip in the area. The location is spectacular, right on second beach and with stunning views. There were two very nice restaurants within a 100m walk (don't be put off by the rustic looks of both restaurants the food was great). The Lodge itself is basic... More

The Lodge on the Beach is an amazing place to stay and good value for money. The lodge is not easy to find but you get rewarded once you have found the place. Hides in a forest going all the way to the river mouth. Accommodations are quite basic with a private bath room across the hall but the views... More

You can’t really go wrong with the Lodge on the Beach. As advertised, it is right on Second Beach, with stunning views over the bay, about a 5 minute drive from the town. We went on a number of great hikes from the hotel – one into the Silaka Reserve, the other to the nearby Gap and Blow Hole –... More

Very easy going, warm hosts Kat & mike (and young Neo) made our stay extremely relaxed, chilled and most enjoyable. Stunning, stunning location! Awesome seaview & beach view to wake up to. With just 3 double rooms, each with own bathrooms, makes for homely stay with a personal touch. The longer you there, the longer you want to stay. Definitely... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lodge on the Beach, is a guest house situated right on the beach and probably the closest you will get anywhere along the Wild Coast. There are three rooms at The Lodge on the Beach, all of which are sea facing overlooking the length of Second Beach, a rustic community consisting of three accommodation establishments, two quirky restaurants and a local shebeen. All rooms, the large shaded veranda and the braai area have magnificent views of the ocean, lagoon and forest with 'The Gap and Blowhole' in the background and Bulolo River and Lagoon at your doorstep. Each room has a small sundeck and private bathroom which is not en-suite. The Lodge on the Beach has a relaxed atmosphere and is most suitable for couples and small families who wish to be a stone's throw away from the ocean and lagoon. It is also a good place to start the 'Port St Johns to Coffee Bay Hike' from, as we are right at the beginning of this hike. The Lodge on the Beach is a bed and breakfast, and dinners can be provided on request. Local fishermen often provide seafood such as crayfish/lobster, fish, mussels and oysters which we prepare for guests. There is also a self-catering option where guests make use of the communal kitchen and braai area. There are also two restaurants namely the 'Delicious Monster' and 'Wood`n Spoon' which are within 50 meters of The Lodge on the Beach. Once at The Lodge on the Beach there are many things to do without driving anywhere which include relaxing on the beach or in the lagoon, fishing, walking through Silaka Nature Reserve to Third Beach, walk to 'The Gap and Blowhole', hiking to Bulolo Waterfall, and paddling up the Bulolo River. ... more   less
