This hotel has become a "go to" place for us in the Hudson Valley. Kingston as a town has a lot to offer (restaurants, shops, coffee places, historic sites) but is also centrally located to visit Woodstock, Hudson, Rhinebeck, etc and visit many wonderful places to go hiking and otherwise enjoy the catskills. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice Hotel Kinsley was when we first visited. Clean, comfortable yet modern rooms. Amazing beds and bedding. Posh bathrooms. Friendly hotel staff who can advise on nearby hikes, things to do and places to visit. The restaurant & bar at the hotel are equally nice. Great cocktails and a good place for a convenient meal. The own negatives were: a) temporary 2020 pandemic measures mean the hotel elevator is not avail for use which could be a big problem for some; b) the walls can be thin between some rooms. the hotel is small and not crowded, but you can hear some more than you'd like; c) the pricing of the rooms can be high on certain nights. All of those things aside, we have gone back to Hotel Kinsley and are always happy to visit.

My boyfriend and I took a trip to Kingston for my birthday. We booked 2 nights at Hotel Kinsley after seeing the hotel online. The hotel is very charming and beautifully decorated. It is in a great location, easily walkable to many attractions or a short drive to others. Check in was contactless and very easy. We had booked a Standard Room and were happy to realize we were given a Superior Room upon checking in (thanks for the upgrade). The room was spacious and gorgeous. The bathroom was also roomy and beautiful. We had a sitting area as well as a desk. There is a Smart TV in the room and you can watch Netflix on it. Some pain points for me that I think can definitely be worked on and improved: 1) We arrived and were told the elevator was not working. Luckily, we do not have mobility issues but it would have been nice if the hotel had emailed or called us prior to our stay to let us know about the elevator. We had to trek up two flights of steps everytime we went to our room which was annoying, but manageable. However, I can see how this could be a major issue for someone who struggles with walking or climbing stairs. 2) We did not dine at the hotel restaurant, but the restaurant currently has outdoor seating and blasts music from a Sonos speaker all night, until 10:30PM approximately (the restaurant closes at 9PM but I guess they had a few stragglers who wouldn't leave those two nights). We could hear the music from our room all night and it was annoying. I think all of the rooms face John St, so I am sure all guests could hear this as well. 3) Parking is free but located in a lot about a 5 minute walk away, behind a Wells Fargo Bank. Otherwise, parking near the hotel is metered. I appreciate the free parking but it was annoying having to walk to and from the car a few streets away everytime we wanted to make a trip. This could also be an issue for those with mobility problems. 4) Walls are paper thin but it is to be expected. I could hear conversations and televisions while I was in the room. The room above us also seemed to be moving furniture alot and we could hear the furniture being dragged across the ceiling. 5) No water given in the room. There is a minibar but there is no water bottles stocked in it (not even asking for them to be free - just wishing they were there out of convenience, even if I had to pay). 6) The first night we were here (a Monday), we were informed the front desk would not be available overnight and there would be an emergency number to call if needed. The front door was locked overnight and you needed to enter with your key after 11PM. If you are concerned about security or having 24 hour staff, this could be an issue. I am not sure how often they don't have a 24 hour front desk, but it is something to note. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and I would come back. I just wanted to offer some constructive criticism on areas I could see an improvement with. I had never been to Kingston before and staying here allowed us to explore the area and have a great trip. Also, Rough Draft Bar and Books is right down the street from the hotel - you must go!

My wife and I spent our wedding weekend here. The Washington Suite is absolutely stunning. It looked like something off the set of Mad Men, but also so insanely comfortable. After our ceremony we had a few friends come to the room for a champagne toast. It was nice to be in a hotel room that had enough space we could all relax without feeling cramped. The staff there really knocked it out of the park. Shelby at the front desk went above and beyond to make our weekend special. When we checked out we agreed we will be coming here for our anniversary every year.

Stayed here for a long weekend getaway with my wife. First time in the Hudson Valley and picked the Kinsley due to its location and decor. No big impact to our stay based on covid policies implemented by the hotel. Overall, I would stay here again but would get a larger room as a standard king was a little small for my wife and I for chilling during the day or evening. Pros: Right in Uptown Kingston; near shops, restaurants, and bars Great decor; mid-century modern decor Shower is awesome; step-in with large rainfall head Cons: Parking lot is not on premises; several blocks away Restaurant and bar closed on Sunday

Banks are rarely described as cozy and since this building started off as a bank, that word has a different connotation than it would when used to describe a rural tavern or inn. The front of the house dinning room has nice feel to it, spacious if narrow, still sporting some bank quality windows and grills. But the bar is just crowded behind that hunkering under a low ceiling and rather dark. There is also a private converted office space, maybe the boardroom up a flight of stairs which works well for groups of 10-20. Attention to detail and some very fine service make the experience interesting however. The food was interesting as well, but hardly exceptional. Our group ordered across the menu, but no one judged it outstanding. Overall it was a change of pace from our usual monthly, cousins dinner meetings, not bad, but not in the top tier either. Nice to be in Uptown Kingston though with plenty of parking across the street in the Courthouse lot and we all love the canopy covered sidewalks.
