From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. Joe is extremely welcoming and has enough information about the area to keep you busy for days. The room was small but beautifully designed and thought through. We had records, books, a dvd library, a free snack center, and a small deck to keep us entertained during our stay, not to mention a living room with even more reading and records. The bathroom was recent renovated and very nice. What really capped off the stay were the multiple course breakfasts! Prepare to skip lunch because they are hearty and delicious. If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, they will ask you and make sure your meal is to your needs. It was the perfect place to get away from the kids for a few days and just relax.
My wife and I visited the Batterby House for our anniversary weekend. We were looking for a quick little get-away out of Manhattan. The Batterby House is a quick (7 minute) walk from the Hudson train station. We had a wonderful stay - the accommodations were thoughtful, comfortable and tasteful. Our room was spotlessly clean and wonderfully cool. It was a 90+ degrees the whole time we were there, and the near-silent A/C was an absolute god-send. We opted to stay in room 4 - which boasts a very comfortable bed-room and a HUGE bathroom, with a luxurious bathtub and shower. It was so nice to take a bath, I can't remember the last time I did that. I loved having the record player in our room, too, with a ton of great albums to choose from. Just down the hall from our room was a nice collection of movies to watch, and a complimentary snack bar. A great touch! Since it was so hot, we ended up staying in and watching TV one night, we raided the snacks many times. The common / dining areas are cozy and stylish. Hudson has some great restaurants, but I think the (huge) breakfasts Joe and Courtney prepared for us at Batterby House were some of the best meals we had all weekend. This is way beyond your typical B+B fare. Joe and Courtney, the hosts, were awesome. Super friendly and helpful, Joe even gave us a lift to the train station on our way home since it was supposed to rain. They had some great recommendations for our time there and went out of the way to make our stay fantastic. They also have a shop in town that has a ton of interesting and fun luxury items to check out. Don't miss it. All in all, the Batterby House was definitely the highlight of our trip, and we can't wait to go back.…
Wonderful stay! Joe and Courtney are generous and thoughtful hosts. They make an amazing warm breakfast and create a warm, gracious welcome and stay. The vinyl album collection alone is a treat! They are super cool.
Batterby House was the perfect adults-only getaway for my husband and I before we welcome a second child. The house is beautifully decorated and our room was exactly as described - quiet, relaxing, with a lovely bed and absolutely giant bathtub. The breakfast each morning was delicious and kept us full far into the afternoon. Joe and Courtney were kind and helpful but not intrusive. They had great recommendations for what to see, do and eat when asked. The location is very walkable. It's close to the Amtrak station and Warren Street. We didn't rent a car and had no trouble getting around because everything was so close. Will visit again the moment we have a chance!
We stayed at Batterby House to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, and could not have been happier with the choice. It is a beautiful house, and the hosts were extraordinarily attentive and gracious, without being at all obtrusive. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. We loved the furnishings, bath products, linens, and record player. We enjoyed window shopping, admiring the city architecture, and visiting Olana. We had a perfect dinner at a place suggested by Courtney, and an amazing breakfast cooked by Joe the next morning. The only problem with our stay was having to leave!
