#36 of 43 in South Luangwa National Park
The Mushroom Presidential House, a unique site on the Mfuwe Lagoon inside the South Luangwa Park, was originally built in the early 70's to accommodate the Head of State and his VIP guests. Following the collapse of the UNIP government in 1991, Mushroom House was re-developed and branded as Mushroom Lodge and Presidential house, as a commercial tourism development. The property has been developed in such a way as to retain the heritage value of its historical past whilst adding value in terms of an appropriate range of amenities and facilities conducive for a full service modern safari lodge.

The lodge is located conveniently inside the park, you just go out of the lodge and start the game drive. The chalets and restaurant look over a river bed where many animals congregate. At the time we visited the river was dry, but the lodge does pump some water so that animals have something to drink. We enjoyed our stay there, especially after a long drive from North Luangwa. Thanks for the excellent hospitality

I think the best way to prove how brilliant Mushroom Lodge is , is to return year after year , which is exactly what I have done for the last 9 years . It's a long journey from England but worth it !!! Location is fantastic , inside South Luangwa NP , staff are brilliant , guides are the best , and I have enjoyed every moment I have spent there , and that is a lot of moments as I usually go for 2 weeks each year . Hope to see all at Mushroom next year , my home from home x

I visited the National park with 2 other friends. The lodge is one of the best places to stay. Unlike other lodges this one is right in the national park. We arrived in the afternoon and we're treated with soul and Indian lunch. One of the best meals since our arrival in the country. We then went for a safari. The guide had amazing story telling skills and was knowledgeable as well. We loved the safari. And spotted lions, hippos, crocs, hyena and numerous others. We were lucky to even spot a kill by Leopard. We took a 2 nights package and each day Spotting were different. The stay was made very comfortable by the courteous staff. Lodge is clean and well maintained. It has a lagoon on one side where you see animals coming for water. The owner Marie was very warm and welcoming and we had an amazing time. Definitely a recommend if anyone wishes to visit a national park in zambia.

We spent 4 nights at Mushroom Lodge and the linked chalets with large shared living space were perfect for our family. This included a large inside living room and an outside veranda separate from the main facility. The beds and bedding were exquisite and the bathrooms large and practical. Food was lovely and the staff were very flexible with eating times--if you did not go on a game drive, you could eat when you liked, etc. The game drives were fantastic as is expected in Luangwe--and the guide was knowledgeable about the wildlife, trees and bird life. Being inside the park was convenient and even though it was peak season, the small size of Mushroom Lodge (which has many fewer chalets than its neighbors) kept our group from being subsumed in a large mass of international tourists.

Friendly staff! On our first day we were given a welcome drink along with a moist face towel to cool ourselves a bit, we thought the moist face towels were given on the first day, but it was given to us after every game drive. The lodge has a great view as it is built on the banks of the river. Mr.Brian, our guide during the game drives gave us a lot of info about the fauna and flora, the small and the big. I would recommend anyone to stay at this lodge, and if you are lucky you may receive a large Bull Elephant as a passing visitor close to your room.
