The perfect place to re-charge one's batteries after the Christmas rush: stunning location, warm seas, pampering staff (Dembo and Oomie in particular), best massage ever (Yassim), reliable taxis (Habib and Bax), scrumptious food, and good weather.

We stayed in the penthouse suite, from the top floor you can relax with a view of the ocean through the tree tops. There are birds fluttering about and kites and vultures soaring above. You can also enjoy the sunset with bats flying past and lie on the sun beds watching the moon and stars whilst listening to the Atlantic...

We stayed at Ngala for 10 nights from the 28th December and had a lovely relaxing holiday. The staff are lovely, the setting is wonderful, the size of the lodge was perfect for us. We booked the Manor suite as it included a hot tub in the garden but this was apparently broken throughout our whole stay. The receptionist and...

Had a wonderful week in December at Ngala Lodge. It was our first time in W Africa and although there were road blocks because of the presidential elections, it still felt really calm and peaceful. The hotel itself was great, with friendly, helpful staff. We took a couple of trips out but otherwise enjoyed reading books on the decking or...

We visited Ngala Lodge nearly 11 years ago for food and always said that we'd come back and here we are. We stayed here over the New Year and had a lovely time. This is a very peaceful boutique hotel. We stayed in the old block in room 5 (ground floor). The room was a good size with a separate...

The beautifully situated restaurant and the talented chef do not leave much to be desired. Jonathan's cuisine is modern and combines influences from all over the world with some very traditional African ingredients. Of the six course meal we had, everything but the desert was lovely, the latter was neither creative nor delicious and lagged behind the rest of the...

Thank you Redmer for your kind comments. I promise to come up with a more expressive dessert for next year's gala dinner. I do hope you both will be back again.

We had the penthouse, which was beautifully finished and we had our own roof garden with sunbeds and shower. The gardens were beautifully laid out with lots of different trees, and attracted lots of different birds. The gardens had many sculptures some beautiful and some more fun, but it all worked. The beach had decking and being right on the...

Like so many guests, we wanted a relaxing pre-winter week and picked the Gambia for its relative proximity and guaranteed sunshine in November. We travel a lot but had never been to west Africa so weren’t sure what to expect in relation to hotel standards, customer service etc. We couldn’t have been more impressed – Ngala Lodge really is a...

The location is right on the sea, just a short walk through garden full interesting art work we stayed in room 1 which had a nice view over the gardens to the sea, which we could hear. The location of the restaurant must be one of the best. Food served was excellent breakfast looking out to sea, dinner more romantic...

We chose The Gambia for the hot temperature and only 6 hr flight from London. We chose Ngala Lodge for the great reviews - and so glad we did! We had a beautiful holiday, relaxing by the pool, walking on the beach, and generally being looked after by the wonderful staff. We stayed in Room 10 - spacious, ground floor,...
