Värska Health Resort Centre is located in the South-Eastern corner of Estonia. In Setomaa, far away from the big cities. Värska Resort Therapy center was opened in 1980. The Water Park partly running on mineral water was built in 2007. This facility is known for the freshwater mud and famous Värska mineral water used here. The mud is taken out from a local lake and it is considered one of world’s most unique therapeutic muds. It allegedly has no alternative. This mud is ten times richer than therapeutic sea water mud and contains hydrogen sulphide. The mud is mixed with extremely salty 570 millions of year old Värska mineral water – a combination one of a kind for sure. Unique is also one of the medical treatments here – Värska Health Resort Centre is the only spa in Estonia that offers mineral water baths. The water used is rich in microelements, generally reinforcing and calms the central nerve system.

The overall experience was bad, I have never heared in Estonian spa so many times a word ''rules'' like this time. And there are some weird rules that you do not find anywhere else. First time when I heared ''we have rules'' was about that when you order a drink at the waterpark spa, then you have to drink it only inside the pool. If you are a slow drinker, then you have to sit in the pool get wrinkled and drink your drink, there is no place to drink it outside the pool and you can not. A worked will follow you and asks you to drink it there. The second time rules was mentioned was that when it came a time to pay for the drinks. Common sense is that if you book a room and want to drink something in the spa, then chip is scanned and you pay later when checking out from the hotel. No, not that place. You have to take your money to the spa and pay at the door when leaving the spa house and you will find that info written only at the spa bar table. Even the booklet in the hotel room said that take you towels etc and nothing about that take your money to spa. Nobody will tell you that before. The lady at the door was a bit crumpy at first and told us that it is written everywhere, we have to read it ourselves and that they can not tell everything to people. Also added that the cafe and spa is different companies with the tone that everybody should know that. Tip for the hotel: If a client goes to spa and sits in the pool, the client does not have to care what company is the cafe and what company the spa is. Ok, as I mentioned there was written at the bar table that you have to pay at the door, but as the spa lets in regular clients without room booking, so usually every other spa lets hotel guests pay everything at the check out time, so we wrongly assumed that this is the case here too, but again they have other rules. The spa is about 200m away through a forest in other building and jumping quickly to room and back is not an option. Also take warm clothes. So we managed to get things ok, but the overall experience was already damaged. Another thing is that you get 4 towels in your room, 2 little ones and 2 bigger ones and you have to take those same ones to spa, extra towels can be rented. For this kind of room price there should be extra towels for spa and also feet towel in the room. If you would want to go to spa several times, then you have to rent a towel if you do not want to use a wet towel. The saunas were small and overcrowded and spa area is opened late at the morning. I am not picky about food, but dinner was under expectations. Only meat option was corn flake covered chicken, which was over-cooked and dry, vegetables were tastles, only good option was the salads and cake. Breakfast was regular, nothing special too. Do not put very sweet pancakes next to fried bacon, it gives impression that those are neutral and somebody would want to eat those as savoury. Only positive thing was a spacious and renovated room with comfortable bed. I think that the price is too high for this kind of experience. We did not feel welcomed.

Friendly staff and the room was pleasant. The balcony would need a surface repair and a chairs and table would also be a good addition, now the balcony was empty and felt unnecessary. In the buffet restaurant, coffee is only served at breakfast. You have to buy it separately for lunch and dinner, this was a little disappointing.

Drinks at the pool bar can also be paid for on the room bill these days.

Buffet dinner (12.-euros) was simple and tasty, breakfast coffee was bad, breakfast choice narrow but tasted ok, room was nice, no good toiletries. All in all, double room for 100 euros (without spa access) is too much for the level of the hotel. We had a nice stay all-in-all but for the money there are so much better choices.

Very nice sanatorium. We had 5 days stay in this Sanatoorium and I wish we stayed longer. We had a premium package and loved every minute of our stay. The food is very good (home cooking). The procedures are superb. The sanatoorium stands on the large lake where you can swim. Defenitely recommend it!

The hotel is divided into two different buildings, the sanatorium and the water center. Unfortunately, the general appearance of the spa was a bit like a corner of a swimming pool, but luckily we found several different saunas and a pool, which made the experience quite good. The hotel's breakfast was also very tasty and the staff were nice.

We visited with a small group of family and had booked 4 rooms over the phone. We got our room keys and headed upstairs in a lift, which stopped half way up, we couldn’t get it moving, nor open the door. Being a claustrophobic, I really panicked, we started ringing the bell but no one came straight away. We saw Maret, the receptionist, downstairs calmly serving other customers and just ignoring the bell. When she finally came to open the lift door with her keys, she snapped at us that only 2 people are allowed to use the lift at the same time. We must of missed the sign on the door but she did not tell us either before we entered it.

When we got to our rooms, there were more unpleasant surprises. Two of the four rooms were without windows, one of them had a window looking over inside pool and only one room had a window to the outside. It was not mentioned when we booked the rooms and when I complained about it to the receptionist, she said there’s nothing she could do and she wasn’t very nice about it. Finally she rang the sales department and the lady there agreed to refund one person’s (there was 8 of us) breakfast (10 euros) for our inconvenience. Two weeks later, we are still waiting for that “refund”.

Amazing place. We came here already few times and planing to come more and more. Now rooms are redecorated and got fresh, modern look. Nice modern bathrooms. Very comfortable. Food as always fresh and tasty. Variety of medical and spa procedures available. Lake next to the sanatorium with amazing views. Water park, great place for kids and adults, just few minutes walk from sanatorium. Parking on site. WiFi in the rooms still not available, but it’s available free of charge in communal areas.

There is no window in the aquatic center room!!! "View" of the aquatic center - you see people swimming. The room is stuffy, impossible to sleep in. The air conditioning is noisy. Beds with springs sticking out, laundry old, cracks in the walls. Insects in the shower.
No hair dryer. No kettle.
Very disappointed.
We've been here before, but we've never seen a plate like this before.
On the plus side: nature is beautiful.

I was in the sanatorium for 3 days and I enjoyed every minute. It has been renovated so all the rooms are clean and in order. The restaurant is big and airy and the buffet plentyful, good choice any time. I had booked all the procedures separately and I got them on time.
The surrounding areas are nice to walk around and in case the weather is warm one can have a swim in the lake. There are short boat trips. There is a small shop with some local produce and + all sorts of drinks, sweets, extra food, even socks, hats, games etc etc.
The staff is very welcoming and helpful.

Both reception workers made an unpleasant impression. They talk as if they are doing you a favor. The same “important” was the saleswoman in the cafe of the aquatic center. The hotel room at the sanatorium looks very cheap. There is not even a small refrigerator in the room. The air conditioner is located directly above the bed and the cold hits the sleeping person. The body cleanser box did not work. Check-in too late. In other hotels, if the room is already ready, they let you in earlier. Here, for every extra step they take money. If you arrive before check-in, they want 10 € for every hour. This is not a luxury hotel to rob people like that. I was left with an unpleasant impression of the service.
