Only advantage of this hotel is that it is REALLY close to the subway. However, that conversely results in an awful night's sleep b/c of the sounds! Really unclean and they didn't have ANYTHING for breakfast- not even water in the juice machine!! Breakfast room worker came by one morning (the only time I saw her) and literally filled up a breakfast plate for herself and left. The omeletes were frozen in a tray and you had to manually heat them in a micro. There was no toast despite there being a bread bin. They should just not provide breakfast. Also, there was a constant smell of cigarette smoke in the room. Also there was no elevator- we had to take all our luggage up the stairs to the 3rd floor!
I stayed here a few weeks ago. It was awful. I was told by someone outside walking by, I guess when they saw my face, that part of the hotel was turned into a shelter and that I should be considerate of that. I would have been if I felt that the hotel/shelter was being kept up/cleaned for the customers/people living there. However, that was not the case. Room I was in was not clean, bathroom had signs of other people having stayed and I was apprehensive sleeping there, yet I know no one in New York and had no where else to stay. The people, if they are in the hotel as a shelter should not have to deal with such conditions either. I hope they start taking responsibility and treat everyone with respect whether they are paying or not, even though that did not make a difference. Pay extra, stay in Manhattan and take Metro North.…
For the price there are a lot of nicer and cleaner hotels in the Bronx. The only plus is that parking is free. It might be better if you could sleep in your car. Needs major updating - the pics don't do it justice. Must have taken the pics in 1975.
I booked my room through Booking.com. They charged me $154 dollars. I got to the hotel and the clerk said "if you pay cash it's $90" .."you can use that ATM .." Walking into the place there was a car parked at the front door and the occupants were getting high. The entire hallway was filled with the smell of marijuana to the point where I got the munchies & had to order food. There was a paper thin brown blanket folded at the end of my bed and after I got out of the shower, I realized there wasn't a single towel or wash cloth in the room. I would rather sleep in my car then to go back to that hotel.
We stayed at this location because my family literally lives at the corner apartments. We got in late at night and were very tired so we didn't notice the amount of bugs in the room. The next morning when we went to take showers, there were about 30 fruit flies, or something in the tub. I had to kill all of them, then clean the tub before we could shower. A lot of them had gotten into the room from the bathroom by then. It was just very disturbing. When I asked the attendant for the manager, he state that "he would not come, and I should just take a card and call the company". I did take photos and video.
Stayed for 3 nights early in July 2016. Overall impression of the motel is poor, the whole place, rooms and all needs to be re-done--the hallway carpeting is in dire need of update--very shabby and unclean-looking. The room (2d floor) that was assigned is dark and the electrical appliances are not plugged into outlets--the desk is not really functional because the lamp on it does not have a nearby outlet to plug it into! The hot water and shower worked remarkably well. Parking is adequate and easily accessible. TV controls are somewhat confusing--must be pointed at box rather than at TV. This motel might be a bargain if it were $60 a night vice more than double that. Good luck.
The a/c in our rm#236 did not work at all we had warm air and with 90 degrees outside it made our stay horrible and the front desk wasn't really personable! We ended up opening the windows to try and get cooler and the room wasn't really clean I was really disapointed and wish I could've gotten my money back! Next time I go to Yankee stadium I think I will try the other Howard Johnson so their sister hotel!
Felt that the hotel wasn't very clean. The first morning we went down to breakfast the milk for cereal was warm.
If you are looking for luxury, look elsewhere! But, if you need a hotel a five minute taxi from Yankee Stadium, just for some sleep, this hotel will do the job. Location is sketchy. In the afternoon we were a fifteen minute walk to Yankee Stadium, but would NOT suggest walking back at night. We felt safe because we were right next to a Bronx police station. But room was quiet, as clean as an old hotel in need of new carpeting and renovations could be. It's a bit creepy, but if you need some shut eye and don't want to drive home after a game/concert it will do the trick. We left at 5:15 AM to beat the traffic, but at check in they told us there was a continental breakfast included. Be careful, once you book, you cannot cancel!
Location to the Yankee Stadium was great distance-wise but the hotel lacked a lot!. The halls smelled of marijuana and the parking lot although free was sketchy. The room was not modern but the bathroom was new and clean. Overall - Not worth my $149.
