As an architect, this was an opportunity to experience a cozy environment made warmer by the graciousness of the hostess. This beautiful retreat is located at the top of the world in beautiful Truchas, New Mexico where Milagro Beanfield War was filmed directed by Robert Redford. This sweet peaceful abode is full of the character that makes New Mexico enchanting....

When I needed some peace and quiet, for solitude and reflection, this lovely place was perfect! The cozy rooms with the comfortable chairs and lofty bed, beautiful folk art and antiques, soft lighting, dancing firelight and deep quiet were just what this soul needed. And then to step outside into the night and drink in the dazzling stars, and in...

I'm a writer who works mornings. In the four days I spent there earlier in the month, the breakfast baked goods (cooked on the premises, ingredients from Whole Foods), local coffee, and fruit were plenty to get me started for the day. When I was done for the day around noon, the high country between Taos and Santa Fe was...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled amongst the pines and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains,on the high road to Taos, lies the historic village of Truchas. The village was founded in the year 1754 by the King of Spain who granted land to several families (of which many still remain). There are numerous artisans that live and work in the village. Weavers, potters, sculptors, painters, wood carvers, furniture makers, contemporary and traditional. We have many galleries and open studios for you to explore. I have two bedrooms each with wireless internet, the larger of the two has a kiva fireplace and a woodburning stove. Both rooms have a flat screen TV. Down comforters and pillows are in both rooms along with terry cloth bathrobes for when you step out of the shower on a cold winters night. A small library with a woodburning stove (also, internet) is where i serve coffee, tea, fresh fruits and yogurt, homemade muffins and jams for breakfast. A shared bathroom with New Mexican tiles around the shower and sink areas. We do not offer kitchen facilties, there is a microwave, refrigerator and an outdoor barbecue for your use. Restaurants are within a ten to twenty minute ride. Pets allowed (if agreeable with my pets) Laundry facilities are available. Hiking and Biking out the front door...And for those who fish, ski, golf or horse back ride, you can find that and much more within a twenty mile range...Santa Fe is 45 minutes south, Ojo Caliente Hot Springs 45 minutes West and Taos one hour north. If you are a writer, an artist or someone who just enjoys the clean mountain air and the beauty that surrounds you, you will find a touch of both in our home and in the magic of Truchas and Northern New Mexico ... more   less
