We were excited to stay here, but were disappointed once we got in the room. First, I noticed that the carpet had obviously not been vacuumed. I then noticed that the window sill and curtain were both dirty and dusty. The walls were in desperate need of another coat of paint or a good wiping down at least. I then...

This hotel dates from 1892. It still retains the original saloon below, complete with a bullet hole in the tin ceiling. The saloon is friendly and surprisingly quiet on a weeknight, serving tasty comfort food. The hotel is very clean and the staff are wonderfully friendly and chatty. The rooms are spartan, and make you feel as though you have...

Was doing Spring Break thunder run from Harker Heights, Tx to Breckenridge with plan to overnight in Raton, NM. Stopped by the Eklund to pick up spices for friend and decided to stay. It was only about $20 more than our bland chain motel would have been and it was a good call. Room was clean and comfortable. We ate...

Nice surprise finding this historic hotel in the small town of Clayton while passing through on the way to Denver. Incredible ambiance and friendly service. Great stay, great value and would definitely stay here again. The shared areas - front desk and lobby, stairwells, saloon were decorated well and added to the character of the hotel. JoBeth at the front...

When I first called and reserved this hotel, JoBeth answered and I loved the place from then on. She was so friendly and warm, I couldn't wait to meet her. Never did meet her, she wasn't there at the time, but her sister was. My friend and I got here after driving 10 hours. It was easy to find and...

We had drinks and food, along with great local entertainment at the hotel saloon/restaurant. We sang along and laughed and enjoyed our evening in Clayton on our way to Denver. Food is reasonably priced.

The hotel is a very nice historic hotel. It is full of nick knacks (some made by hand by one of the proprietors) for sale. There is no hotel parking so you park outside in the street. The room was spacious and very spartan. The room was cold and the thermostat was broken. We had to tape it down in...

Some of the statements made by Esther D in her review prompted me to respond about this recent room stay. As for parking, we actually do have FREE on-site parking, plus on-street, and parking in the city lot behind the hotel-that is three options for guests. But maybe we need to mention this even if guests don’t ask so that...

We stopped here for dinner and found the roads impassable. We checked in and found genuine hospitality. The history of this 1892 hostel is everywhere and our hostess spent hours entertaining us with stories. Our room was on the corner and thus a bit chilly, extra blankets were brought. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast is a wonderful feast of homebaked...

Jerry at the front desk was the nicest gentleman. He was very accomidateing and shared the hotel history with us. We got the King Suite, it has a balcony on main street. The owners, Janet and Keith, served breakfast, and dinner. An abrupt snow storm had the road shut down, and J &K opened their doors to other travelers and...

We had a reason to be in Clayton recently and discovered this little gem. Don't let the photo of the outside of this hotel fool you. It is quite beautiful once you go through the front door. I would recommend the suite that we rented. It had a balcony, large tub with jets and was quite spacious. The rooms are...
