The location and accommodation were excellent. Swellendam has an almost old world atmosphere about it and eating out was excellent. We ate in at the B&B one evening and felt that quite a bit of improvement is required (the ostrich was far too tough). Breakfast was excellent however.

Missed the real Cape food that was cooked by the old owners. Would love to see the restaurant back to its former glory. Why change something that works? Breakfast was very basic, although tasty. Lovely owners, very friendly and endearing.

We had a very nice stay here. The food they serve in the restaurant is delicious! Very pleasant to have a restaurant on site. Friendly staff and close to the city centre. Wifi only works outsite of your room.

The room was very dark during daylight and in the evening the lighting was terrible. If you wanted to use the kettle or hair dryer then you had to unplug a lamp which made the room even darker. There was no mirror near to the small chest so doing hair, make up etc. was impossible. I admit that I am...

We stopped here en route from Cape Town, to break up the drive along the Garden route. Swellendam seems to exist for this purpose, there were lots of hotels and guest houses and not much else. We enjoyed the pool and the rooms were clean and comfortable. We had a family suite with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms inside one...

Top A for hospitality, top A for food (I had the porcini mushroom and steak - again), the best steak in all my journeying here and abroad, while hubbies bobotie was a repeat as well! Love the casual classiness.

It's the second time at the location. I can recommend this stay to anyone. It's amazing. The service, rooms, attention to guests, service etc, is of the best. Excellent and highly recommend. Thank you

Came back to Roosje van de Kaap after a long time. Stayed there a number of times in the last 10 years. The place changed ownership and now the thorns are coming out. What used to be Cape Dutch is now Belgian/Malaysian fusion. Breakfast is substandard and run by an owner manager who clearly has no idea how to treat...

MeneerKaap, Manager at Roosje van de Kaap, responded to this review

Strange response; owners are partly Dutch, partly Indonesian (which is Cape Malay) so how more Cape Dutch can it be? This person must mean something else. And in a country where job hopping is the norm, staff that works already more then 4 years for this Dutch/Indonesian owners, can only mean that they are treated very well.

We booked this place in regards to a recommendation from friends which were there years back; it seems the owners changed in the meantime. The place is quiet and neat with a lovely garden and a small pool. The booking information we got confirmed via email seemed was incorrect and the price increased a day later which we accepted. After...

MeneerKaap, Manager at Roosje van de Kaap, responded to this review

This response is full with exaggerations and untruthfulness, this people are only concerned about the price of things (not the value), despite that we offer good value for money, especially in the festive season. She didn't want to pay anything for sending her trousers and only communicated in a very demanding rude way. Despite that, the owners still brought back...

Unfortunately arrived on a Sunday ,so the restaurant was not open but the cottages were well appointed and tastefully decorated . Had a beautiful view of the mountain and easy to walk in and around the town
