A well run B& B with a personal touch making you feel if you were at your own home. The location is walking distance from all the key local stops. Breakfast offered is great. Highly recommend a stay if you are visiting areas around Prince Albert

INNKEEPER’S FAVOURITE REVIEW
Reviewed 22 January 2017

We have spent around two weeks here nearly every year over Christmas and New Year for the past 8 years, and were concerned about any changes the new owners might bring in. Didn't need to be, everything seems fresher, cleaner and better than ever. Wisely keeping the character that makes De Bergkant so special but with their own extra up-to-date...

The Karoo town of Prince Alfred itself is a very positive surprise: much more lively than expected, lots of galleries, artist"s shops, very clean, lots of extremely well growing succulents, just definitively more positive overall than some other inland towns or settlements. And then: to find "De Bergkant Lodge" - it is definitively a "wow". Very friendly (new since 18...

The famous theoretical physicist Albert Einstein once said: ‘I love to travel, but I hate to arrive’. However, his words certainly do not apply to The Bergkant Lodge in the small, quaint Victorian town of Prince Albert, named after the spouse of Queen Victoria. The place is run by the Swiss nationals Renate and Michi who left the corporate world...

What was always an excellent guest house, under new ownership and management, has tried to improve on a winning formula. A little bit of Swiss influence has been injected which proves popular with the European tourists from what I observed.

So clean & organized. The rooms are much more than we expected, large classic bathroom was such a pleasure. The bed was also very comfortable, with decent quality linen. Location also was fantastic, I'd recommend walking up into the hills early morning or late afternoon - spectacular views of such a beautiful part of South Africa. Being in this village...

The quaint newly renovated De Bergkant Lodge has everything that you need for a visit to Prince Albert. The rooms are impeccably clean, roomy, comfortable and authentically period decorated. We stayed in a suite where we found everything that we wished for: a small bar with complementary tea and coffee, a refrigerator for keeping all the delicious things that we...

Really charming old furniture in atmosphere of 100 years ago , but all you need in 2017 is available. Big rooms and huge bathrooms. Very good hosts. Good breakfast around the swimmingpool ( in which you really can swim!) Softdrinks at your service in daytime and cocktailhour around 18.00

"The Bergkant Lodge" was a marvellous surprise to me. The wonderful and beautifully kept garden strike the eye as soon as you enter the plot. The house is a real Cape house. The rooms are big and clean to the extreme. And the breakfast at the pool is not only good tasting, but one is welcomed by the staff as...

Couldn't fault a thing. A very good stay, sadly too short. We've stayed here before but this was the first time under thecurrent management. A nice touch was that they had made a provisional reservation for us at a nice restaurant which worked out well. These people really know what they're doing.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The 'De Bergkant Lodge' is a historical Cape Dutch GuestHouse located in the beautiful, historical town of Prince Albert at the foot of the dramatic Swartberg mountains in the Great Karoo. The 'De Bergkant Lodge' offers their guests four luxurious Suites with lounge, bedroom and en suite bathroom, and five equally well-appointed luxurious Double Rooms with en suite bathroom. All rooms have ceiling fans, air-conditioning, tea- and coffee facilities, TV (with DStv) and most have under-floor heating. All the bathrooms have our famous double showers, Victorian baths and under-floor heating for chilly winter days (which occur just occasionally). Fluffy cotton towels ensure that you feel pampered. All beds are either twin- or king size. Our linen is 100% pure cotton. Breakfast for our guests is served either inside in our poolside dining room or on the terrace in the garden beneath the trees. Much of our fare on our breakfast buffet comes from the village and local farms in and around Prince Albert. Prince Albert is famous for its deciduous fruit and the milk, yoghurt and prize-winning cheese from Gay's Dairy. Guests will enjoy at the 'De Bergkant Lodge' a breakfast which is a delight in taste and presentation. The secluded gardens boast two large saltwater swimming pools: a 15m pool surrounded by verdant lawns and a 10m walled, private pool. We also offer a sauna and steam bath and hidden in a private garden you will find a small "star" bath. ... more   less
