We visited last year and found this to be the best accommodation we stayed in at the park. It's a lovely quiet spot and the cottages are very well appointed - we enjoyed a fab barbeque on the balcony though did have to find off the cheeky monkeys! The game viewing was excellent in the southern area of the park...

Luxury living in the bush in well-equipped secluded bungalow. It's great being able to dawdle through the Addo park and then overnight in your own air conditioned self-catering bungalow in thick bush, with only the birds for company (and monkeys, so keep your doors and windows closed when out of the room). Staff at the gate are friendly and professional....

We stayed at Matyholweni Rest Camp for 3 nights in March. It was our first stay in the park and we thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet. We saw loads of Elephant, Zebra, Ostrich and even a Caracal. We were lucky to also see an Owl one even on entering the camp and had bats frequently in our camp. The...

The lodge at Mathyholweni is close to the south (Colchester) entrance and is very quiet. The lodge is quite well equipped, which is just as well as there did not appear to be any restaurants in Colchester. Make sure you have the makings of a meal as, apart from a small supermarket at the local garage, there is not much...

Once arrived at Addo Elephant Park, we were pleasantly surprised by the cottages They are nicely tucked away and since there's only a limited number of them, you truly feel secluded. Everything needed available, only thing is to make sure you bring your groceries, since there's obviously no stores around. Braai at thr terrace, which is just great. In de...

Stayed in 3 SANParks' rest camps during the winter holidays and this was the best one. Staff were great from the day I phoned to book (and had special requirements) 'till the day we left (in contrast to a very bad experience in the ADDO main camp shop). House is typical SANParks, but has everything you need while spending most...

If you want a waterhole then Matyholweni rest camp will disappoint. It is in the bush and very close to the southern entry into Addo Elephant Park. The chalets are rustic and equipped for self catering. There is no restaurant here so you do have to make your own meals. I loved the peace and tranquility and we saw many...

It was our first visit to Addo Park, and the Mathyholweni Camp was a great surprise. The camp is small, and not crowded. The cottages were very well maintained and spotless! We did a few regular drives during our three day stay and saw many animals ... And of course, elephant. The Sanparks staff were well trained in their respective...

We stayed here in spite of it being above our typical budget, and it was worth it! The cottage was beautiful (far better than the cottages we stayed in later in Kruger Park for the same price), with a very good private kitchen and deck w/ braai overlooking the park. We also loved the fact that we could be up...

Super quiet, clean and lovely. Very well equipped. Small balcony provided an amazing view of the area with bird visiting us in the morning. Good value unfortunately they were very busy so we could only stay one night here. Camp is easily accessible through one of the park's main gates only a short drive up the road., makes a great...

“Stock up with your own food and drinks before heading for the Addo Elephant National Park - Matyholweni has no restaurant or shop. There is a supermarket relatively close if you have forgotten anything. Don't bother with breakfast or lunch at the restaurant at the main gate - rather have a picnic at Jack's in the middle of the park.”
