He check in experience didn’t leave me feeling welcome, however the room was very clean and the bed was both huge and comfortable. For a quick one night stay it was fine. We went to Merlino’s for dinner because it was a 2 minute walk away. The food was outstanding and I would definitely return there.
Very bad stay ! Service Is awful! Lady at the reception is very rude and absolutely unwelcome! Rooms are not very clean and matters are old ! No coffee amenities inside the room and you have to wait until 8 o clock to have a coffee in the small lobby! Try other place in the same area with people happy to work and not a grumpy women not smiling or even not consider you . Some people have to change works if they are not nice with people at the hotel check in desk !!!
We have been staying here over the years, especially during ski season and have been very impressed with not only the hospitality and eagerness from the staff to make sure your stay met your expectations, but the cleanliness of the rooms as well! Sad to say this was a far cry from this ! We were staying in the two bedroom suites <premiuim prices> and had called up to the day of arrival asking if my adult sons could get into the suite by 3 to decorate for my husbands surprise birthday. They were met with grumpy front desk personel and stated they couldnt check in until 4pm because of the lack of staff! That was never conveyed to me the day before. My sheets were DISGUSTING! Clean ,but heavily worn and pilly! Towels were thin and worn. Minimal utensils and one role of paper towels for the advertised FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN! The coffee maker still had an old filter with coffee in it .Went to replace some towels and two women at the front desk didnt even look up to acknowledge us. NO BROOM in the room and they wouldnt supply even though we were there for 4 days and crumbs everywhere, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dissapointing for 450/night! Would have been so much happier at the Marriot or White Mountain Hotel . Management has changed , prices are reflective of this without the little touches that made it such a special find and place to stay! The suite is not worth the price<old uncomfortable couch as chair as well.>…
We had booked a king bed room directly through this property’s website back in early August for three nights in early October as part of our New England fall vacation. We provided our credit card info and received a CONFIRMED booking via automated email from their system and thought all was good. We had specifically picked this place based on the very good reviews on Trip Advisor and its location near the places we wanted to explore while we were in New Hampshire. When we arrived at the inn for the first night of our stay, we gave our name and presented our confirmation to the young woman handling check-ins. As she looked at her screen, she seemed perplexed, repeatedly asking me to spell my name and how did we book the room. Again, I showed her the confirmed booking from their system. Somehow, the booking was not showing in their system, and they don’t have a room for us! There was no subsequent communication from the inn by either phone or email after our booking that there was an issue. Note this is prime fall leaf peeping time and the town was packed with tourists, so all of the lodgings were fully booked. She called her manager at home to come back in to resolve the matter with us. The manager Cathleen came in, apologizing profusely for the screw up and assuring us she would rectify the situation at no cost to us. She proceeded to call around to neighboring hotels/motels to book us a room. After about 6 or 7 calls to various places with no availability, she found an available room at a nearby Quality Inn for the first two nights, and then we would return to Golden Gables for the third night as she assured us she would have a room for that night. (See also my review of the Quality Inn at North Conway, NH as that is a separate story by itself.) She told us the available room at the Quality Inn was for a queen bed, but as they say “beggars can’t be choosy”, we agreed to it since the manager at the Golden Gables again told us they would cover the cost of the other hotel. So we stayed at the Quality Inn for the two nights (which was horrible - our room was full of gnats!). Upon checkout there we were told by the manager the Golden Gables never paid for the room even after she made repeated phone calls to them, and as a result, we were charged the two nights there at over $800! (Even though the arrangement was for the Golden Gables to pick up the tab at the Quality Inn, we were required to give them a credit card upon check-in for any possible incidental charges.) Of course, we later proceeded back to the Golden Gables Inn for the third night of our stay, and recounted the story at the Quality Inn. The same young woman whom we originally interacted with at the Golden Gables Inn said that was not true; that in fact they did make the payment and they instructed the Quality Inn to cancel their charge to us. Further, because the payment on our original booking never went through, she needed to charge us the original amount for the three night stay less a 10% AARP discount, for a total of $700. (As we were on vacation I had no way to verify that we were not charged originally, but upon returning home and checking my statements this appears to be the case.) But upon checkout the next day, the statement said the $700 was just for the one night. So again, what is the truth here? Why were we charged triple the original per day rate, despite the HOTEL’S own admitted screw up. As for the room itself, it was OK, reasonably clean and neat. It was an ADA room, so perhaps it had been set aside and that is why it was available on short notice. We talked to some other guests at the nice outdoor fire pit the night we were there. They indicated they have stayed at the Golden Gables several times in the past and have enjoyed their visits. But the property has recently gone through an ownership change and is no longer the same. So perhaps that is a factor with our issue with the lost reservation. We have since returned home from our trip, and see both charges (from each hotel) totaling over $1,500 were put through our charge card! Needles to say we were livid. I tried calling Cathleen the manager at Golden Gables upon our return home to hopefully resolve this matter, but she has yet to return my call. As a result we have put through formal disputes for both charges with our card issuer until the truth can be sorted out, and will take legal action as necessary. While we wish we could give a favorable review of this hotel, the lost confirmed reservation in their system and the resulting obfuscations with payment to the other hotel and our charges is simply unacceptable.…
Sooo we have stayed at this motel in the past and always been happy... It has sold and now it lacks the personal touch and charm that it once had. When I checked out the woman working in the back behind the desk never even stood up from her computer. We rented the two bedroom suite which is not cheap... There were dirty face cloths outside the door from when we arrived until when we left. The door know in the second bedroom had dried ketchup or blood all over it that I had to wipe off. The dish towel had long strands of hair all over it when we were trying to dry the dishes. No breakfast included... I wish they would supply a mini bottle of dish soap and some dishwasher tablets like the Marriott across the street does. Beds and pillows are sooo soft and uncomfortable. For the price the value and stay at the Marriott is much better... Unfortunately they were booked so we ended up at golden gables. The WiFi was iffy... No housekeeping service. I did appreciate though that they checked us in early. This place has so much potential and was once really good...…
We had a great stay. Check in is 4pm or after. They are short staffed. I check to see if we could check in a little early. Rooms are spacious and very clean. Bed is very comfortable. They have done a full remodel it appears after purchasing recently and it’s looks great. Second floor has a private balcony as well. Laundry is down some stairs & around behind office. It’s in a great area with so much around it, lots of stores and food options. Conway is only a few mins away & has a lot of things as well. Close to lots of sights. A coffee maker in the room would be a great addition as the one is the lobby is a very small container. Not replenished often. A garbage can outside also so those of us traveling have a place to put garbage from our vehicles. As far as the room some type of hanging bar in the bathroom would be helpful. There’s plenty of room. Hairdryer is workable, but the older kind attached to the wall. Time to add a new one. Just a few simple things can bring this hotel up a notch. No elevator was my only real issue, i was not aware when i booked.,Request first floor if it’s an issue. We both have knee issues (husband knee replacement in 2 weeks) and up & down stairs with suitcases and stuff gets to be a bit much. Trying to save the knees for hikes & our vacation !!…
We usually take a Family camping trip to NH, this year we went here mainly because of its great location, but also has a firepit to sit around at night ! Close to shopping restaurants and hiking and kayaking.
I’m really trying to give a fair review. When we first arrived we were impressed with the well groomed curb appeal but when we arrived you get this big negative sign saying they are short staffed so you can’t check in until 4pm. Also they have hot water and coffee only from 8am-12noon . We wanted to leave out early for hiking so this was extremely inconvenient for us. I arrived at the front door at 7:45am the next morning for hot water. A lady inside seen me there freezing but didn’t open the door until 8:02 am. It felt like a power struggle. The hot tub was closed for repairs the entire week we stayed. The sun beat down hard on our front door and windows which made our compact room hot during the day so we would open the windows only to have people backed in our parking space idling their car blowing in exhaust fumes. No one cleans the rooms regardless of how many days you book so you have to walk all the around the building to the front office and beg for every little thing you need . I’ve been in so much pain this week with my neck because their pillows are nothing more than a bag of cotton balls with ZERO support. All the towels were a nice size and white without stains. My bed had pubic hair on the sheets but I have to hope they were just stuck in there through no fault of their own. I hated our room. You can’t even get to the toilet because the bathroom was so compact ..Oh, and I wish I could figure out how to load a video just so you can hear how LOUD the exhaust fan is that you’re forced to hear if you want the light on since it’s an all in one switch. This is an overpriced motel that has more rules taped to the door than services offered.…
I booked room in august asked for a cott…cott was not ready when got to the room they said they are all used Shyla would not answer the front desk said she would call back my sister had to so I took the role to go to front desk and I said it should be all set for us …well the hotel sold well according to Allen in June it sold so in august should be new owners they should of honored their words not our fault that it sold they did not tell us ..so she said my sister was rude …I was there she was not she said her boss was telling her what to say…well then boss get on the phone yourself …u should not have stress when u get to a place to stay so the customer behind me just go he says I need to check in well I was there first and non of you business so stay out of it…then Shyla told me to leave I did not have to stay there ever again she was sick of me and go to your room well I’m not a two year old thank you very much..yelled at me my niece was witness to this and being 7 she said auntie she’s mean i was as a customer who paid over 260 for 1 night should be treated with respect no matter what I’m paying for a non stressed stay we will never stay there again shayla is horrible to deal with and she’s young well I’m in my late 40s that’s not how u treat people ever so maybe this hotel job is not for you the hot tub was broken but no where did it say broken..Allan your a very nice guy. He found a cott for us could of been a nicer cott not his fault gave us his fan for the night and was calm and doing everything he could for us extra pillows…and he was very calm and willing to laugh with us in our room which was nice and he treated us as we should be treated he was great and he should get a raise thank you so much for being so nice and getting our items ……
I gave this place 3 stars because of a number of things. There are no coffee machines in the room which requires a trip to the office for coffee or tea beginning at 8:00AM . This is not all that awful but in inclement weather it could be unpleasant. And second, the wifi was very weak and slow. Third - there is no breakfast served which is a feature I value instead of looking around for a suitable place. Overall this is otherwise a nice enough place and there were no other issues.
