Stayed here just one night with a last-minute mid-winter reservation. I was in town with a friend to see a show at the Petersborough Players Theatre Company, and although the show was lovely, I could not have predicted that the real star of the night would be the Hancock Inn. Host Jarvis was marvelous, and dinner at the bar of...

This is my first review of anything, but I felt inclined to sign up to give credit to the Inn Keepers. They were perfect in every way! Welcoming, friendly, informative, patient, accommodating. I wanted to take them home with me, but I guess I'll just have to go back to see them, instead. My girlfriend and I spent Valentine's Day...

We stayed at the inn for only one night but it was one of the most delightful experiences and wished we had more time. No doubt we will be back again. The inn keepers display such passion for their inn and it is reflected in every detail. We enjoyed a fantastic dinner in their quaint dinning room as well. Cannot...

My wife and I visited looking for a romantic and quiet getaway. The Hancock Inn was perfect! Lots of history and fun touches in the building, warm and friendly service from the innkeepers and staff, and a wonderful breakfast. The sheets were so comfortable and smooth, it was fun having a gas fireplace in our room, and we loved relaxing...

Thank you for the nice review! We're very glad you found the get-a-way spot you needed and hope you'll come back to savor it all again sometime soon - including breakfast! Very best, Jarvis.

The Inn is fabulous. We had a large room over looking a quintessential New England Red barn, and a toasty gas fireplace to take the chill off. The owners are friendly and gracious. Also knowledgable about what is happening in the area. We had a delicious cocktail in the bar before going into the dining room. The dinner was outstanding,...

Thank you so much for the very nice review. When we arrived over five years ago that red barn was in trouble, We're grateful that our neighbors, Main Street Cheese, rescued it and that they hired a craftsman for the job that specialized in saving old New England barns. When the structural work was done, everyone enjoyed watching this person...

How fortunate that this charming old inn has a beautiful ground floor room, completely outfitted for the comfort of a wheel-chair-bound guest. With direct access from the parking lot, this cozy Drovers Room has many historic touches--beamed ceiling, four poster (king size) bed, rustic stone (gas) fireplace--as well as a modern, spacious bathroom with shower seat and grab bars. We...

We can't tell you how gratifying it is to hear that the Drover's room worked well for you. We have tried to make it cozy and functional, but did not go so far as to use a wheelchair ourselves, so it's wonderful to hear first hand! Thank you so much for bringing your family (of course we feel dogs are...

Stayed here for two weeks over the holidays and it truly felt like home. I think my husband left claw marks in the snow as I almost had to drag him away. The owners are exceptionally hospitable and do a first\-class job of running the inn, which includes a great restaurant. The housekeeping was spot on, the kitchen did a...

It's not often that we are treated to having house guests for an extended two week stay. People come and go around here so quickly. There's barely time to learn everyone's name. You were excellent company and, we must say, a real addition to the warm, welcoming, atmosphere we try and engender here at the inn. Thank you. We will...

Charming common areas in lobby and authentic historic rooms. Hotel room was extremely well-organized and super-comfortable. Inn owners are delightful, but respectful of guests' privacy. Inn location on the main square in the beautiful town of Hancock is the best !!! Restaurant is cozy and has very good food.

This is our third trip to the Hancock Inn to help us recover from the post Christmas rush. We come to relax, unwind and enjoy the Inn's New England charm. Thank you so much for the nice review, which touches on almost every theme we could conjure for ourselves this time of year. Winter is the slow season here and yet we have always been struck by the connections that get made with our guests this time of year vs. the busy summer and fall seasons. For the most part,...

Our first stay at the Inn was close to five years ago. We keep going back because it feels like home (but much neater and the service is better). To be placed alongside such distinguished innkeeping company is a wonderful Christmas present. Thank you very much. We have a policy of not using guest names in this space if we happen to recognize the poster unless they have revealed it themselves in some manner. In this instance, of course, we know who you are. So, thank you. One of...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hancock Inn is a historic property in Hancock, New Hampshire. Built in 1789, it is New Hampshire's oldest continuously operating inn. The inn has 14 rooms for overnight accommodations that are exceptionally well-appointed with period antiques and inclusive of modern amenities, such as in-room chargers, waffle-weave spa robes, flat screen televisions with built-in DVD and wifi throughout the building. Many rooms have gas or electric fireplaces. There are numerous common areas around the inn for the enjoyment of our guests, upstairs and down. The two sitting rooms on the first floor, one with with a Rumford fireplace, are hallmarks of the inn's warmth and hospitality, separating it from the usual of being away, making it feel closer to home. Outside, the inn's 1.5 acres of gardens and field (which includes a professionally maintained croquet pitch in the summer) connect visitors to the Monandock region's preserved landscape and scenery. In the winter, join countless avid snowshoers and cross country skiers and, other times, experience the lakes, rivers and trails that crisscross our corner of the world. The inn's fine dining restaurant, The Fox Tavern, is open seven nights a week. The farm-to-table menu features New England favorites relying on locally raised beef, pork and poultry, plus cheese, fruits and vegetables from area growers, including vegetables from our own gardens. The Tavern's reknowned, cooked-to-order breakfast is served complimentary to house guests. Come to the Hancock Inn and learn why it has been characterized as "the near perfect expression of the New England village inn." ... more   less
