We just returned from our second New Years Eve at the lovely Horse and Hound Inn. Last year my husband and I enjoyed a magical, romantic night at the Inn and everything was perfect. The food, the mood the room were all fantastic. This year we invited five other couples to experience the magic and they all loved the Inn....

We visited the Horse and Hound just before Christmas, and loved this warm and welcoming New England auberge. Host Doug was friendly and helpful; Bill in the tavern saw to our every need. Sherries in the pine-paneled library were a perfect opener for dinners in the wonderful restaurant all three nights of our stay. We highly recommend this well-appointed and...

From arrival to departure, Sue and Doug couldn't do enough to help us. We arrived on Monday, when the Inn's kitchen was closed (Tues too), but they gave us a full breakdown of local places to eat. When we did eat dinner at the inn, it was delicious - fresh food, cooked simply and beautifully. Breakfast was incredible every day....

We stayed two nights over the Columbus Day weekend while we enjoyed the changing leaves and the hikes around Franconia. The location is not too far from the highway, easy to find with plenty of parking should you arrive during dinner hours. This B&B has a bar and restaurant as well, so the lot quickly fills during those hours. Even...

You've gotta love this B&B! Its location is perfect for those exploring the Kancamagus Hwy and Franconian Notch. It is just off a main road, but you feel as if you are completely private. The common area has a large library, leather chairs, backgammon and chess, and complimentary brandy. If you happen to be visiting there between Wed-Sun. I would...

Lots of good memories from our stay here including: A tidy garden on the premises providing fresh vegetables for memorable meals expertly prepared by their chef, maple trees across the street providing syrup for french toast and blueberry pancakes at breakfast, considerate and timely service from Doug, quiet games of chess in an enticingly warm library with hot cocoa -...

We stayed mid-week and it was extremely quiet. There wasn't any noise at all really other than quiet conversation. The room right at the top of the stairs may not be best if you're a very light sleeper due to others going up and down the stairs. Our room was well maintained and beautiful. We stayed in room 7 which...

Upon arrival I almost felt as if I'd stepped out of a stagecoach and back into a quieter and simpler time. The Inn is beautiful and soothing, full of unique New England charm. The innkeeper Doug is a consummate host - warm and friendly. The rooms are comfortable, warm and inviting. There is daily breakfast, often made by Doug himself...

We have stayed here a couple of times over the past few years. The inn has been beautifully restored. I love the library/parlor room with the all the wood and old books. There is a shelf of Nancy Drew books which reminded me of how much I loved reading them when I was a child. The rooms are very comfortable,...

Located on a quiet road with no visible neighbors, we visited this beautiful Inn while attending a reunion. We were met inside the beautiful lobby by Doug, the owner, who is friendly and has a sense of humor. Although our room was small, as are most of the rooms, it was extremely comfortable and clean. I may only have asked...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
THE RETURN OF A CLASSIC. The Horse and Hound, located in the rugged White Mountains of New Hampshire, first opened in 1946 as a tasteful inn, tavern and restaurant. With three fireplaces and knotty pine paneling throughout, the inn welcomed everyone from Hollywood stars to local outdoor enthusiasts and quickly established a reputation for great food, elegant lodging and warm hospitality. Now celebrating its 65th anniversary, the Horse and Hound was closed from December 2010 through June 2011 while undergoing a comprehensive restoration to its classic lodge style. Now completed, the cheerful tavern, gracious dining room, elegant lobby, handsome library/lounge, and nine restful guest rooms once again invite you to unwind and relax after an active day in the Great Outdoors. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to welcoming you back. FOOD, SPORT & STEWARDSHIP OF THE GREAT OUTDOORS. ... more   less
