My family and I stayed at the Inn for a post Xmas ski vacation. It was our first time visiting and we loved it! The inn is quintessential New England. It is just the right size with lovely gathering areas, cozy tavern and a great intimate restaurant. The entire Inn was spotless with great attention to detail. Our every need...

Beautifully restored inn done in a simple, elegant style. The innkeepers were welcoming and the food was delicious. The library is a nice place to relax and browse through their large collection of magazines which included Backpacker, National Geographic and many travel magazines. An area of the library also included maps of the area and all the ingredients to make...

We spent two nights here in mid-October. We were made to feel welcome the moment we stepped in the front door. The study was a wonderful gathering place in the evening. The tavern was a great place to get a pre-dinner drink. And the dining room had freshly prepared carrots from the garden, potatoes, and fall-off-the bone chicken, tender duck,...

We live in the area and had dinner in the tavern. The service and food were delicious. The place is very comfortable and cozy, very well designed complete with fabulous old wood flooring and dim lights.

We were there for two nights and would have "loved" to stay longer. Doug and Stacy could not have been more hospitable and helpful with what to do and where to go. Lovely grounds, well maintained, with hiking trails and running brooks. Our meals were simply fantastic. The Library was a haven to sit and relax, share a bottle of...

We stayed for two nights in this lovely inn. Doug was the perfect host, with great suggestions for evening meals (as the inn's restaurant was closed the nights we stayed), serving delicious, fresh and varied breakfasts and generally being so welcoming and friendly. Our room was very clean, the bed very comfortable and the complimentary brandy was a nice touch....

We ended our 3 week East Coast road trip with a 2 day stay at the Horse and Hound. It was the perfect way to end our trip. Our room was spacious, filled with light and spotless. The backyard and patio with comfortable seating and a heater to warm the getting-chilly evening air was the perfect place to have our...

My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves at this wonderful B and B. It is located near Franconia on a quiet street. They have a restaurant that offers many tasty European alpine influenced options. They were quite busy for dinner, apparently a local favorite. The breakfast was also quite good. The room was clean and rustically basic.

We just spent a weekend at this inn and have only good things to say. The inn is located in a quiet bucolic setting, a perfect antidote to hectic city life. Our room as well as the whole place was immaculately clean and well kept. Owner and staff were most pleasant and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were very good as...

My wife and I had a wedding event in the Franconia area for the Labor Day weekend and the Horse & Hound turned out to be the perfect choice for our stay. I'll start by saying we're not usually fans of B&Bs or Inns, I always fell like everything is too quiet and too precious and I have to tiptoe...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
THE RETURN OF A CLASSIC. The Horse and Hound, located in the rugged White Mountains of New Hampshire, first opened in 1946 as a tasteful inn, tavern and restaurant. With three fireplaces and knotty pine paneling throughout, the inn welcomed everyone from Hollywood stars to local outdoor enthusiasts and quickly established a reputation for great food, elegant lodging and warm hospitality. Now celebrating its 65th anniversary, the Horse and Hound was closed from December 2010 through June 2011 while undergoing a comprehensive restoration to its classic lodge style. Now completed, the cheerful tavern, gracious dining room, elegant lobby, handsome library/lounge, and nine restful guest rooms once again invite you to unwind and relax after an active day in the Great Outdoors. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to welcoming you back. FOOD, SPORT & STEWARDSHIP OF THE GREAT OUTDOORS. ... more   less
