This small motel is "ok" for a short stay. We spend 1 night there when visiting Death Valley. The room is very basic, but is clean. The decor should be renovated. The air climat work bit is very noisy. There is a fridge and a microwave in the room. The women at the front desk was very kind and gave...

We showed up so late and the lady at the registration was so nice and informative! There are lots of travel pamphlets that help navigate around. The rooms were also quite nice. Make sure to ask them about any attractions or places you are thinking about going. They will have great suggestions and ways to get their. One fact is...

We stayed here for 2 nights in April. We'd booked a room online well before but when we arrived Aaron who was in charge kindly allowed us to select a room we preferred. We went for 17, which was massive with2 queens. Aaron the guy who runs this place is so kind and helpful. Very charming and full of great...

The room we stayed in was large and notably clean. Mini-fridge included. The proprietor was friendly and had lots of good suggestions about local eateries. The rates are one third the cost of the expensive hotels within Death Valley. The room and the beds are a conspicuously dated, but Beatty is a remote location, so guest expectations need to be...

We spent 2 nights here for our visit to Death Valley. Reminds me of the serviceable non-chain motels that used to be everywhere and now are rare finds. Room was large, bed comfortable, bathtub and shower near perfect, free internet, TV, and parking right next to the room, no resort fee. Small refrigerator and microwave were all we needed for...

Owner very helpful and personable. Facility clean and adequate. However, for folks who might be concerned with security be advised that there is no chain on the door, no deadbolt, and the only lock is a cheap, conventional in-doorknob lock that one might find on a bathroom door. No coffee maker, no ice machine, no hair dryer.

Nice room, rustic and clean. Quiet. Small fridge and microwave. No coffee maker. Very close to several unusual attractions. Practical and inexpensive stay for those on a budget and on their way to or from Death Valley.

This is an ideal stop to visit Death Valley. Beatty is an interesting little town and the hotel is well situated. My room was right at the front and contained 3 big beds (I was travelling alone)! It was clean and comfortable and better than most motels I have stayed in. The managers (owners?) were pleasant and helpful, despite a...

There is a real shortage of lodging at Death Valley National Park, so most lodging is outside the park boundaries. El Portal is an older property, inexpensive, but well maintained. Not loaded with amenities, but it was a good home base for long days in the park. You're near the Rhyolite ghost town, a great place for night photography. You...

El Portal is something like 4th generation owned. Don't let the outside fool you inside is a very large room with refrig. Things are a little old but very clean and well managed. It is also right on the road to Death Valley. A great location. Don't expect high end. Expect clean, comfortable and convenient. I would stay there again.
