Xanterra operates this rustic lodge and cabin in East Glacier NP. The cabins are basic but clean and well-maintained. The dining room's menu is limited but the food is well prepared, the service is good, and the prices are affordable. Unlike Delaware North, Xanterra provides...More
We enjoyed our one night at Rising Sun in one of the cabins. We thought the cabins were a little better taken care of than those at Swiftcurrent. I cannot comment on the views, we were there during the height of the wildfire smoke the...More
This small cabin was perfect for two people. As in all National Parks, there are very limited "amenities". However, that's to be expected...rustic charm is the way to go. No TV means we could listen to the Great Horned Owls hooting outside our window.
We were only able to stay one night, but felt they did a pretty good job for a national park lodging. Quiet, clean, and old fashioned as most of them are. I cannot give 5 stars until they make an attempt to give some wifi,...More
For $158 plus tax per night we had a cramped cabin with no wifi, no phone. Room hade unpleasant smell made a little better by opening windows. Room had a coffee maker with good quality coffee and bed had good bedding. Poor air circulation --...More

The cabin I stayed in was a double cabin...2 rooms per building. There were no chairs outside and the porch was not large enough to accommodate chairs if someone wanted to go inside the cabin. Our view from the front was the dirt road and the back was full of trees. We could hear the river but couldn't see it due to the thickness of the trees!

The speed limit on the Sun road is low. It depends on how much you are familiar with driving on mountain roads and your comfort level. I'd say it's about the same as driving to Mariposa at Yosemite and a little better than the road to Hurricane ridge. The road is wide enough for a sedan IMP. The area close to the rising sun goes around the cliff at st MARY lake. Try look at google map/earth to see for yourself. You can always take the shuttle or join the red bus tour, especially the secret valley tour to two Medicine it is quite nice and only takes half a day. The road to many glacier is fine and has no major drop offs. If your goal is to hike at many glacier, just remember it is about 40 min away. If you'd want to visit lake McDonald valley, it is quite a drive away and you may want to find a place over west glacier.
