We chanced upon Richmond Barracks as we were looking for a place to stay on 7 December, en route to Port Arthur the next day. We did not have a hotel booked beforehand, but thankfully there was vacancy here. We were instantly impressed with the friendliness and hospitality shown by the owner (Simone), her son and her dog! We were...

The place was cosy, spacious, spark & clean and fully equipped with cooking appliances : electric stove, oven, microwave, toaster and fridge. It is well priced and definitely value for money. Warm welcome from Simone and her son Matthew. Accommodation ticked all boxes for cleanliness, homely, the grounds are well appointed and great to sit and read. Close to all Richmond historical sites and great for walking, exercise. All cottages were sooo appealing. Loads of character, whistle clean and comfortable for those wet days. Wonderful location to have a bike and...

When in Tasmania I am always drawn to Richmond, just 15 minutes to Hobart it is a beautiful town with fantastic architecture, quaint shops and a great village atmosphere. The Barracks is a well appointed set of appartments dating back to the 1800's. Very clean and comfortable with nothing left to wish for. Hosts are very friendly and the breakfast...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Richmond Barracks is centrally located in a quiet, peaceful pocket of the beautiful Georgian town of Richmond. An easy walk to the famous Richmond Bridge and Richmond's main street, filled with excellent dining options, antique stores and Tasmanian craft shops. Relax and enjoy the spacious sun filled gardens that surround the beautiful cottages on our property. The Colonial officers who originally lived at the Barracks certainly did not enjoy the superb comforts you'll find here today. Built in 1830, using local convict bricks, this charming National Trust Registered property is a restful haven for the discerning traveller. Choose between any of these three purpose built accommodations: Lady Esther Cottage: two storey, self contained family accommodation, sleeps four comfortably. The Retreat: bedroom, lounge, kitchenette, bathroom, sleeps two/three comfortably. The Cellar: studio with kitchenette and bathroom sleeps two only. You'll be comfortable and warm with electric blankets and heaters in all bathrooms, and efficient reverse cycle air conditioning/heating in all cottages. Free WiFi is provided throughout the property. A hearty, continental breakfast is available at an additional charge. Off street parking is provided. ... more   less
