Stayed in Lady Esther cottage at Richmond Barracks and it was perfect in every way. Comfortable, clean and a two minute walk to eateries, quirky shops, pub and supermarket. There was a second bedroom upstairs with ensuite (toilet and handbasin) if required for another couple. Continental breakfast was provided by our host Simone who was charming which included bread, yoghurt,...

Richmond is a lovely town and the Barracks was an ideal place to stay. A walk into town, neat clean in nice gardens, parking onsite. We had a two bedroom, two story unit. Small kitchen area with most items for a simple meal. Nice to sit with the French doors open for meals. Simone is a lovely friendly host. Only...

A short walk will take you to the bridge for a photo experience then return via the main street to your spacious well appointed room. Relax in the courtyard with a book from the shelf in your room. Enjoy breakfast at your leisure before touring the vineyards and wicked cheese tasting a short drive away.

My partner and I decided to stay in Richmond after having arrived there and seeing what a cute town it is. We called around to several places and found them to either be full or fairly expensive (starting at $160). This place, while showing booked/unavailable online, when we called, had availability! We spoke to Simone who was incredibly friendly and...

Friendly, helpful host and neat compact overnight accommodation. Just right for our overnight stop in Richmond to prepare us for our day of wandering around the historic village. Very close to the centre of the village and walkable to sights by anyone. Our 88 y.o. granny walked into the centre for a good look around the Sunday markets.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Richmond Barracks is centrally located in a quiet, peaceful pocket of the beautiful Georgian town of Richmond. An easy walk to the famous Richmond Bridge and Richmond's main street, filled with excellent dining options, antique stores and Tasmanian craft shops. Relax and enjoy the spacious sun filled gardens that surround the beautiful cottages on our property. The Colonial officers who originally lived at the Barracks certainly did not enjoy the superb comforts you'll find here today. Built in 1830, using local convict bricks, this charming National Trust Registered property is a restful haven for the discerning traveller. Choose between any of these three purpose built accommodations: Lady Esther Cottage: two storey, self contained family accommodation, sleeps four comfortably. The Retreat: bedroom, lounge, kitchenette, bathroom, sleeps two/three comfortably. The Cellar: studio with kitchenette and bathroom sleeps two only. You'll be comfortable and warm with electric blankets and heaters in all bathrooms, and efficient reverse cycle air conditioning/heating in all cottages. Free WiFi is provided throughout the property. A hearty, continental breakfast is available at an additional charge. Off street parking is provided. ... more   less
