Stayed here while visiting Carleton College for 2 nights. Stayed in room 300, had two double beds and a very nice size bathroom with a shower, no tub. Room was updated and very clean. Only comment I would make is that the mattresses could use replacing, they were a bit bowed and that's being picky. Staff is extremely friendly and... More

This hotel is located in downtown Northfield MN, on Division Street between Third and Second Streets. There is limited off-street parking in a lot in back of the hotel; on weekends, you can park all day and overnight on Division Street without getting ticketed. The downtown area of Northfield is scenic and historic. A number of excellent coffee shops and... More

Historic inns can be gamble because stale and frumpy can be billed as quaint and charming. The Archer house was surprisingly nice. The rooms have been tastefully updated with high quality materials. The location is in the heart of town and walking distance to Carleton College. My son was bothered by the near by train but I slept right through... More

This is a small, old hotel with all the good and bad that comes with it. The rooms are small but are clean and functional. Very few extras (no minibar or coffee maker) but a comfortable bed and good shower. The staff is friendly and helpful but not always available. The room had an armoire instead of a closet. The... We stayed at Archer House for a weekend recently. It is a charming building dating from 1877, with enough remodeling to make it comfortable but not so much that is ruins some of the original features. We stayed in a large room on the third floor; it was comfortable and clean with a four poster bed and a view over... More

I don't think I've ever written a review for a place I've yet to stay at, but I was just so impressed by the front desk service. I'd left a message checking availability for a last minute same day reservation. I received a call back within 5 minutes, and while it turned out that the Archer House was indeed fully... More

My friend and I stayed in the Executive suite for three nights from July 2,3,4, 2014. We loved the place from the moment we were checked in by the charming Marseen. She was helpful, courteous, knowledgeable about the area and a real asset to her employer. Another employee who deserves acknowledgment is Tanner who works the Tavern where we enjoyed... More

I travel a lot and I understand that not every property is a Marriott or Starwood property. Some are quaint little bed and breakfasts and that's their charm. Well, this place is FAR from charming! First off, there is a heavy set, African American woman at the front desk who is the most rude service industry person I have ever... More

Todd B, Manager at Archer House River Inn, responded to this review

It took me sometime to respond to this persons review because after investigating, I was so angered by his unfairness, clear exaggeration and demeaning treatment of our staff during his visit. We are a small inn and we very much enjoy getting to know our guests, finding solutions to their issues and providing whatever assistance we can during their stay... More

I recently attended a 3-day conference hosted by Carleton College, and while other hotels were available in town, many of us chose to stay at the Archer House. The convenience of being within walking distance to campus and to the shops and eateries in town was a major factor in my choice of this hotel. The front desk personnel were... More

Yes, it is very historical and I appreciate that, but with what they are charging, I expected more. I liked the woodwork throughout the hotel. What I did not like was that there were several areas within the halls and room that you could smell the must. The Tavern Bar had a bartender that was rather short with us and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Archer House River Inn occupies more than a central location in Northfield. For generations of guests and locals, it IS Northfield - a geographical and architectural landmark, a host to history for nearly 140 years, and an exemplar of the town's spirit of hospitality. Built in the French Second Empire style, the four-story red brick building is grand in design, rich in character, and impressive in its amenities - which include two full-service restaurants, a coffee shop, riverside lounge, conference space and more. Yet with just 36 rooms, no two of which are identical, the inn is intimate in scale and unique in feel. The Archer House also boasts the city's best location, straddling the town's main thoroughfare and the Cannon River. Beyond its prominent setting and venerable history, something else makes the Archer House special: a spirit reflected by the staff's pride in upholding a 140-year legacy of caring for guests, and the ownership's loving stewardship of a property that embodies the heart and soul of Northfield. ... more   less
