I can't quite understand the negative reviews of this campsite. It is a classic kiwi campsite - basic but functional with simple but well laid out kitchens, toilets, showers and a laundry. What more can you ask for? Grassy plots with adequate shade for those hot East Coast summer's days and a short walk to an unspoilt beach?.... got it!...

It is a basic accommodation at remote area such as Te Araroa. You get what you pay, a basic cabin, don't talk about luxury, just a private room for 4 people with basic kitchen things for cooking, linen, but with shared common bathroom. Some people chose tents site with own caravans among the big trees, the choice is yours. BTW,...

We stayed here for one night in our self-contained campervan. Bathrooms and toilets a little spooky. Kitchen was not equipped with utensils apart from a toaster and 2 water kettles. Paid $30 for 2 of us for a nonpowered site. Most electrical outlets in the kitchen were dead. Had to unplug the kettles to charge phone. Wifi reception only near...

Motel units comfortable and clean. Can guarantee earthquake proof up to 7.1 quake! Friendly and helpful proprietor. Vodafone only cell phone coverage and intermittent wifi available. A bit overpriced for season but nowhere else to stay!

Got bed bugs from the awful and uncomfortable beds. The BBQ had mould growing on it and was unusable. The water was not drinkable, we had to boil it for drinking, cooking and brushing teeth. The room was absolutely minute and pretty smelly. Not a nice place to stay at all.

The camp ground could do with a bit of TLC. I miss the old cinema nights. The walk to the beach is nice. Go up the road for coffee at the honey place in the morning. I've previously been up to the East Cape Lighthouse from here on a tour, which they still do.

Stopped overnight to break up the journey, facilities were fine for an overnight stay and Bill the owner was super friendly which makes all the difference. Nice peaceful spot close to the beach. There is a shop onsite which also has a licence so you can pick up a bottle of wine ! Showers and toilets are clean and there...

Stayed with my now fiancé in one of the tourist flats recently as a bit of comfort after getting engaged that day, only to find that the tourist flat we had was not up to scratch for what I had paid. The shower was only cold so had to use the shower block, despite it being one of the reasons...

We had 2 nights here. Lovely spot with lots of space and trees. The owner Bill arranged us some horse rides which the kids loved. Beach on the day was sadly a bit rough to swim in. A nice stop if you're driving around the Cape. Facilities could do with a tidy up possibly but still a great place.
