The Molino d’Era is a strategic location just kilometers from Volterra and San Gimignano. Our guests enjoy the opportunity to stay in a recently renovated early 18th century facility with a large garden overlooking the river and the serenity of the surrounding countryside. The family management and informal atmosphere put guests at ease. Our Hotel has a large free parking lot and an excellent and renowned restaurant with typical Tuscan home cooking, also appreciated for delicious dishes cooked on the authentic wood-burning grill. Your vacation will pass quickly, with long strolls in the green of the surrounding hills, pedaling a mountain bike or visits to the many out-lying art cities such as San Giminiano and Volterra, or closer, such as Siena, Pisa and Florence. If you love horses, you are on the right place, having close several stables that can accommodate them and who can organize (on request in advance) half-hour, an hour or a half a day excursions.

I booked this in mid June and picked this place because I thought it was close to Volterra and because it has air conditioning! The air conditioning it broken! No notification, nothing said, nothing. The restaurant was closed and they notified me of that. I wasn’t concerned because I thought the location was close to the city. Nope. The only staff person here works in the bar and she was nice and tried to help us out. We were tired from driving and didn’t feel like drive no back into Volterra for a meal so she made us sandwich’s in the bar. BUT had I know there would be NO air conditioning I would have never booked this room. Pretty place....I thank the sweet young lady in the bar for trying to accommodate us.

Response from madaminamo, Responsabile reception at Hotel Molino D'Era

Dear Ms. Jo S. We had a big problem with the air conditioning pump, as already explained to you. The problem was solved in the afternoon of your arrival. Absolutly we moved you to a cooler room, given the inconvenience. How ever, each room is equipped with central air conditioning. There are little fans to turn on each room. Closing day of our restaurant is Tuesday, where we informed you via e-mail, as already explained to you. Alternatively we have 1 km our farm (on arrival are given all possible information about it). We are immensely sorry that you had bad luck. We wish you a good day.

Spent many happy times at the Molino D’Erma run by Irma and her family. The food and the ambience were great. Booked again this year to find it is under new management. It is still nice and friendly but quiet and with no ambience. The food is ok but not great.

First, the good: The staff is polite. The facilities are clean. The restaurant is above average (for dinner). Now for the rest: It is a road-side restaurant and the road noise is constant and loud in the rooms. The facilities are very dated - early 80s at best. The location is in the bottom of a valley - no mobile service whatsoever and the Wi-Fi doesn’t work. Usually no big deal when on holiday, but I had to drive 5 miles to send a work e-mail this morning. The hotel is 9.3 km from Volterra. Not exactly convenient. Lastly, any place in Italy that serves instant coffee for breakfast (especially when they have an espresso machine) is, well, enough said. Come here for the restaurant, stay somewhere else.

This is a wonderful family run place to stay and eat or just eat in the wonderfully authentic restaurant. The food is outstanding as are the accompanying wines. On this occasion food took longer to arrive at our table than previous experiences but was still delicious.

We cannot recall how many times we have visited this excellent restaurant over the last 10 years but we have never been disappointed. The food is typical simple Tuscan food cooked perfectly and the service, especially by sisters Irma and Sandra make the dining experience very special and one that makes you want to return, as we regularly do! A wonderful place which we highly recommend.
