Definitely one of the best weekends of the winter. Both the skiing and the lodge were great. Andy was a wonderful host and really made everyone feel welcome. The cabins were very basic, but perfectly comfortable. Augie put together tasty meal after tasty meal. The polar plunge was addicting. Just a great place for a ski weekend.

What a nice surprise to get an NFL ski review with no snow in sight. You made my day! Hope you can make it up again this winter. Thanks much! -Andy

We've been enjoying NFL for 15 years. Best XC trails, great host, and love the outdoor hot tub. Enjoy family style dining. Live music on Saturday night by localThe artists is lots of fun and great for dancing. Trails are classical, trees are tall pines and snow is ubiquitous. It's my favorite.

Rarely have I had a weekend away that I came back feeling so refreshed, happy, and so looking forward to a repeat. Pack up a few things (most importantly you X-country skis and swim suit, and a beer or two or bottle of wine) and head a little over an hour past Duluth and get ready to enjoy every moment....

Beautiful ski trails. Delicious cuisine. Fun live music and dancing Sat night. Fun group and warm and friendly hosts. Only 4 hrs from the Twin Cities but I felt very much away for a break. I will be back next year for sure.

We heard about NFL because my wife stayed here in the mid 1990s during the summertime. We were not going to be taking a warm trip, so cold it was. Everything was awesome! Food, trails, hospitality! Andy and the staff were awesome!

We loved our weekend there (just getting back home now). Andy and his cook Augie were great. By the end of the weekend Andy had somehow memorized the names of all 40 of those staying. Our family took advantage of the miles of groomed XC trails and the snowshoe trails as well. We were fortunate to have extremely nice people...

Thank you, thank you! I am so happy you enjoyed what the NFL has to offer and don't worry, guests here are always friendly. We reject all the nasty ones. :) I am going to have to clarify the "beachfront" comment a hair. Gegoka is a sandy bottomed lake whose water quality supports a small patches of wild rice. A...

Last weekend our group of friends enjoyed another gathering at the National Forest Lodge. We enjoyed Andy's kind hospitality, excellent food prepared by Augie, and had fun in the north woods cross country skiing despite weather conditions in the mid 30s Fahrenheit. He treated us to a band to listen and dance to on Saturday evening called the Five-ohs ....

We heard of this lodge by a random search, but WOW it is amazing! We loved every minute of it, from the lodge owner's welcome on the first night, to the people we met, to the sweet cozy cabin we inhabited, to the AMAZING single track trails among the pines of the superior national forest. the snow was wonderful and...

Everything an outdoor (silent sports) enthusiast needs to re-charge. Extremely well-marked and maintained trails, excellent hearty home-cooked food, tranquility, cozy lodge. This resort appeals to my sense of balance, it is not luxurious or wasteful and not too rudimentary or basic. It feels just right. Easy-peasy (beautiful) drive up, parked the car, unloaded the skis/snowshoes and did no more driving....

This was a great place for our family to gather for a get together. The Log Home was big enough for our family which consisted of, grandparent, three parents and 4 grandchildren and their significant others. The space was plenty for all of us without feeling cramped. We cooked some wonderful meals in the well stocked kitchen, had a nice...

“If you like camping, go for the simple cabins. If you prefer amenities, stay at the Hideaway or the Big cabin, or as they become available, the smaller cabin(s) with running water. The lodge is a great place to hangout with friends for games, reading, or conversation when not serving meals. And bring your camera. It is beautiful!”
