Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In late 2021, I booked a weekend break through Booking.com for September 2022. Some months later, I was contacted by Booking.com to say reservation had been cancelled. I rang Tara directly and eventually got speaking to Geraldine. Was told that they weren’t doing B&B for the foreseeable future. A few days later, my friend rang Tara directly and made a booking for the September 2022 dates, no problem! My friend also booked a couple of days in August, 2022 and was assured that all dates were in the book. We arrived on 2nd August to be greeted by a lady who we later found out to be Geraldine. She told us that there was no reservation in our names and they had no rooms available because they weren’t doing B&B! She disagreed that it had been her that my friend had spoken to on the fone. Then she said that they had booked us into Reddan’s in Bettystown but couldn’t say why we hadn’t been informed of that fact. Funnily enough, Geraldine confirmed our September reservation but at a price that was €40 dearer per night than originally quoted, so we cancelled on the spot. We left Tara feeling very disgruntled and arrived at Reddan’s to discover no reservation had been made for us there by Geraldine & co! Gary very kindly juggled things around to arrange a lovely room for us. But what a shambles by Tara. They are either running a business or they aren’t. We were swayed by the good reviews on TripAdvisor but I wouldn’t recommend it based on our experience.

Location is perfect! Laytown is small charming town. Tara house is close to bus and train station. 3 pubs, 3 take aways and 2 shops nearby. Aldi supermarket is very close too. But the best is sandy beach just in front of the building. We were lucky to get room with sea view and admire beautiful sunrise over the Irish sea. I collected few unique shells on the shore. We checked in earlier than planned but still we had very warm welcome. Coffee and water as we arrived free of charge. Our host was friendly lady with great sense of humour. It was my second stay there and definitely not the last.

After reading reviews we thought that this Band B would be ideal for a stop over before flying next morning We were very wrongly advised! The place was really dirty with spiders and old cobwebs everywhere The old net curtain and cushions were all stained Breakfast was no questions and no choices, it was a poor example of Irish breakfast- no black/ white pudding no tomato ,no choice if wanted that or not. No cereals or jam etc and no orange juice The cutlery was dirty with old food plain to see stuck on the fork and everything just looked and felt dirty WiFi didn’t work in bedroom They tried to over charge but luckily I had the arranged price on my phone to show We will never go here again How does somewhere as poor as this get a good write up? We have traveled to many places and this was worst ever

Staff were fantastic great location as it is just beside the sea But that's about it. Very dated, very dirty dusty and gruby. Breakfast was basic no orange juice only offered to some guest, glasses on table dirty flies walking on bread.that was left sitting on table......

Read all good reviews of Tara and expect more, as that is what we experienced. Tara is very homely, a most wonderful and magical place to stay. The room was clean, fresh and a reasonable size. We were met by Geraldine, who then introduced us to her family, as they had all waited for us to arrive. This made us immediately feel part of their family and relaxed. You will meet Nula who makes the best bread ever. Just wait for your breakfast and the view across the sea. Laytown is lovely village with miles of sandy beaches, perfect for walking the dogs and taking in the air. The people we met in the local shops and pubs could not be more friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Thankyou to Geraldine, Nula and her family for making us so welcome. Our stay was one of the highlights from a special stay in the area. We only had one night, we wish we could have more and will return.

We stayed one night here in transit to Dundalk for another couple of nights. Such friendly folk. Nothing was too much trouble. The homemade bread was superb and I wish I had bought a loaf home. Room was clean and tidy and ample room for the dogs. Breakfast was good too. We took our small dogs and it was ideal for early morning walk on the beach. We would stay here again but for longer. Wish more places were like this.

We stayed here for a couple of nights when visiting family nearby. It is very traditional - First and foremost, the ladies who run the B&B are amazingly friendly and can't do enough for you. They are very welcoming, and the breakfast was amazing! The location is on the sea front - so a lovely way to start the day with what felt like an unlimited freshly cooked to order breakfast, overlooking the sea! The rooms, while a bit dated, were clean and comfortable. Only downside, was we were a bit unlucky with our room, as it was right beside a street light, and the curtains are very thin so it could do with heavier curtains to block the light out.
