Upon my early afternoon arrival the front door was firmly locked. There is no doorbell or indication what to do. I finally inquired at the open business next door and a fellow came from the back to let me into my room. This seems to be a common thing. During my two days there the front desk was only staffed from about 3 until 6 PM. -- While nobody in the staff spoke English, I had a quite enjoyable time in the late afternoons practising my feeble Spanish on the front desk ladies. -- The bed was comfy, there was a big TV and a nice courtyard. This is an attractive historic building. There was two ample bathrooms shared for about 6 guestrooms. -- They don't take credit cards and taxes are only charged if you want a receipt. -- While the bed was clean and comfy, the floor and walls were visibly dirty. -- The advert said "Free welcome drink" but I was told that I was told that was at a restaurant in centre of town. When I asked at the restaurant they knew nothing about the drink. -- While this was a generally nice location the nearest restaurant was a block away. -- The guest room had two fans which were essential since the windows were solid glass. (Probably recently upgraded from shutters). Since there was no Air Conditioning this made the heat intense. I therefore had the choice of either opening door or the window onto the courtyard. There is no way to lock the window partially open. Fortunately only one other room was occupied and there is secure locked door to the street so I felt reasonably safe. I expected no A/C but screens or shutters would have allowed some air circulation.

Rooms are clean, big enough for two people and two pack packs and have a good working fan. Toillets and the shower are shared but the nicest and cleanest that we ever had since we are travelling. Owner and staff are very friendly and although our spanish is limited and so is their english they were really helpfull. It feels like a little homestay than in a hotel. Location is very good and quiet. Nice common area where you can drink and eat your own stuff. Especially good for couples or people who wanna have their privacy after many touristy partyhostels.

This place is pretty great. The owners are lovely, the rooms and facilities were spotlessly clean, central location, free water and coffee, good wifi, secure and comfortable. It was really quiet at night too, which was good, my only complaint was that it was really hot in the rooms! I know this can't be helped all that much as Leon is a hot place. They offer 2 fans but I found they didn't help much in providing relief from the heat. I imagine that most places in town have this problem though, so unless you want to pay an extra $10US for air con it can't really be helped. In terms of a common room, there is a small area with some seats but not really a social place so it's good if you prefer your privacy. The shared bathrooms were nice too, there are 2 bathrooms between about 5 rooms so I never had an issue waiting to use bathroom. No kitchen facility, but there is a fridge and microwave. The rooms are well priced and I would definitely recommend staying here.

We had a great 4 nights stay at the central lodge hostel in Leon. Nice double room with 2 fans for low price, very clean common bathrooms, free coffee and water. We especially liked the contact with the owner, Sergio, and his family. They were very nice and welcoming, giving us tips about what to do in the city and we had some great discussions that gave us an insight of how it is like to live in Leon. Gracias Sergio y Hasta luego!

We originally wanted to stay along 'Backpacker's alley' in Leon where Bigfoot, Viavia were. But when they were full, we stumbled upon this absolute gem of a 'hospedaje'. It is run by Sergio, the kindest man you will ever meet. He took such amazing care of us, always asking us if we were comfortable. He gave us some incredibly helpful tips about what to see, how to not get ripped off etc... One night, he even treated us to a few beers and we sat in the little common area and exchanged stories over some broken Spanish on our part! The rooms are basic, but extremely clean. Towels are provided. A/c is also available at a cost. The bathrooms are shared - but are honestly the most luxurious shared bathrooms we ever set foot in! There is free coffee too, and a fridge for you to store any fruit/drinks you want. The location is amazing, smack in the centre. If you really want a chance to rub shoulders with a true gent, and have great, cheap accommodation as well - this is the place for you. We will definitely return to stay here if ever in Leon again.
