Upon arrival we were met by a lady with a lovely smile. We loved the atmosphere, the room was very well arranged, clean sheets, clean bathroom, apparently recently remodeled, in our room there was a painting on the wall of a sunset, it is very cozy.
It's a sweet place that has only few rooms. Cozy, clean, with a lovely & caring owner and her cat. It's close to the loud via via or bigfoot hostel but here you'll find quietness and a feel of being a part of family. It was an unique experience and I really enjoyed the fact that I wasn't one of many anonymous turists sharing a common space. You could only communicate in Spanish here, but even the basics are anough if you try some body language too ;)
There are 2 hostals Nicarao: Hostal Nicarao, very small family hostel (the "dorm" has 3 beds) and Hostal Nicarao 2 (bigger, and more expensive). I stayed at the first one. A bed in the dorm costs only US$4 and a private room, US$12. The bed was not very confortable (the mattress was caving) but the place was clean and peope super nice and welcoming. There is a small kitchen with a fridge, a TV, wifi, a place to do laundry... The hostel is located downtown, close to the supermarket, the banks, the cathedral, the street market, and the bars and restaurants. There seems to be a lot of family members or friends living at the hostel (at times, there are more of them than there are guests). This is a very quiet place where nobody speaks English. I recommend it if you speak Spanish and want to stay in a quiet place and feel like you are living with a family. I have not been to Nicarao 2, so I cannot comment on it.…
Me gustó mucho Hostal Nicarao! Me gustaría volver. <3 I really loved Nicarao Hostel. Not only was it the best deal in town, but we met amazing people and had a wonderful time. Although we only stayed for a few nights, Hostal Nicarao already felt like home. Also, every night, the owners offer a traditional Nicaraguan meal at a very reasonable price. I would definitely go back!
