My wife and I stayed in the Hemingway room and had a comfortable and relaxing stay. The bed was soft and warm. The bathroom was clean and accommodating and the breakfast was out of this world. The inly drawback was pieces of rust or something in the water when we ran the jacuzzi tub making the water an off-putting color....

Management response:

To insure our safety, our Village performs hydrant flushing & valve checks twice a year - this sometimes results in water discoloration for a few minutes when the water is turned on. Sorry if this created an inconvenience for you. We liked your photos!

I stay at Deer Head any time I'm in town. Rooms are clean, nicely appointed, quiet, and beds are very comfortable. Nice alternative to the noisy hotel hallway and rattling a/c unit. But what really makes the stay - are the Hosts. Warm, helpful, generous. AND the breakfasts!!!!!! Served just in time to get you to the ferry for the...

Really liked this place, one of those one-off quirky US hotels - not cheap but well worth it for the experience. Every room based on a different theme, very comfortable and clean, would highly recommend.

This bed and breakfast was nice. Our only complaint is the water was green. Not sure if something was going on with the water when we were there but my sister and brother in law also had a room and said the same thing. The taxidermy is not my thing but we knew that before booking . Very nice owners...

Michigan's Dept. of Environmental Quality requires a Spring & Fall hydrant flushing & valve check to keep our water safe. Sometimes it causes a discoloration of the water, but usually, after running the water a minute or so the discoloration goes away. That's most likely what was happening to the water. Nonetheless, sorry you experienced that. We do appreciate our...

My wife and I have stayed at Deer Head Inn several times. The Inn Keepers always meet our needs. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The morning breakfast is always something to look forward to. The Inn is close to Ferry Service. You can walk to almost anything you need.

Relaxing and quiet, but close to the action. Just a quick 3 block trip to the Shepler dock. We left the car parked at B&B and walked to ferry, dinner, and the park on Lake Huron next to the Mackinac Bridge. The rooms are clean and cozy. Nancy and Barry do a great job with breakfasts, housekeeping, and travel tips....

This is a great bed-and-breakfast. Charming and hospitable host and hostess. Outstanding gourmet breakfast cooked by the hostess. She and her husband are traveled interesting people who make the visit extra pleasant. Decor is in the "Ernest Hemingway" motif, with trophies and backwoods bric-a-brac. The house is Arts and Crafts style and meticulously restored. The furniture in the dining room...

Oh my, where to begin. Nice place, close to the main road and the ferry. First, they need to do something to fix the steps to the porch. I fell up them 3 times and down them twice, and I am very active and not a clumsy person. I think they are of different heights or something. At the least,...

As reflected on our website, our home is over 100 years old, and these older, historic homes are not always up to modern standards. We do have hand rails along each side of the front steps [see photos on website] and are sorry the guest did not use them. Other reviewers love our breakfasts. On the 1st day of this...

This is a tale of parents learning from their children:) When we told our adult children we were headed to Mackinaw for a few days they told us we HAD to try the Deer Head Inn so I called. They only had an open room for one night so we booked it. First of all, they told us we could...

This is the perfect place to stay in Mackinaw City. the location was great - close to everything and just two blocks from Shepler's Ferry. The home itself was beautiful and extremely well maintained. We stayed in the Bear Room, which had a nice little sitting room off of it that was nice. The breakfasts were very good and Nancy...
