Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It doesn't take much to make a stay horrible. In our case it was the bathroom. To start with there was "fecal matter" still in our toilet when we got it. Clearly it hasn't been cleaned. We had to remove a tick from our bathtub. The drain plug was broken off in the tub and one of the light fixtures wasn't working. We didn't get into our room until late so moving wasn't an option. When we mentioned it to the desk clerk they only said, "well...we'll give you 2000 ihg points". Big deal

Hotel's Favourite
Was in town to see the Toledo Walleye play the K Wings. This hotel is very close to the arena, right by I-94. Check in was smooth, room was clean. Comfortable bed. Heat worked well which was needed being Winter. Shower pressure was weak though. Breakfast bar was well stocked.

This has been the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel. The receptionist gave us keys to a room someone was already staying in, creating a really uncomfortable situation for us and them. The room itself was musty and humid. The next morning at breakfast, there were chunks of tinfoil in the eggs (I included a picture), and one of the employees yelled at my friend while she was making pancakes. All in all, this was a really poor experience and I wouldn’t recommend this holiday inn.

I apologize again for this happening to you, I did take half off your room rate when we talked the next day. This is not like our housekeeping staff so I hope you do try us again the next time you are in Kalamazoo.

This was one of those places that as soon as you walk in you know it is not going to be good, but you are tired so you stay. The management (I believe is Sophia) should fisit their hotel. The kid at the front desk had his hoodie on and feet up on the desk. Think we woke him up. Got the room, got into the smallest elevator I have been in with the stinkiest floor which I couldn't even tell if that was carpet or dirt for the floor. Got off on 3rd floor. Terrible greeting of old vanity and dirty carpet. Unlocked room and didn't want to take off socks. Gross. Went to take shower which was dirty and found out we had NO towels. Went downstairs and the lady a head of me at the desk said her room had no T.P. Slept in clothes. I would be ashamed of mysrelf if I had anything to do with that hotel. Stay away.

My apologies that you were not happy with your stay. We have changed the problem you had with the front desk. We do have quite a few construction crew rooms staying with us so the elevator does need to be cleaned multiple times during the day and evening. You are correct there is no reason for not having towels in your room. Our carpets are cleaned continually right now because they are getting dirty quickly. I do apologize, please try us again next time you are in Kalamazoo we are working hard to fix any problems someone encounters.

Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Plenty of parking and close to restaurants Pool was small but grandson enjoyed it. The breakfast area was not well stocked, waited about 15 minutes for coffee and then there were no cups. Garbage was overflowing. The young man working was doing his best, while the older woman told him what to do and could have been doing a lot more herself.

Excellent customer service! Very clean room! Amazing breakfast with many great choices! Comfy bed and pillows! Quiet. Conveniently located to hospital, which is why we were there. Staff was very accommodating to our needs. Housekeeping staff was very thorough and accommodating in providing more towels, soaps, shampoo, etc. 24/7coffee was provided in lobby and Keurig in room. Very pleasant experience!

Not up to HI Express standards. Skid marks on toilet bowl, welcoming me to the room. Shower head randomly sprays water around bathroom, loose toilet seat, hard bed, spider webs in closet. Bathroom had no bath fan and poor lighting. Staff was very friendly and I liked the larger fridge. I’ve stayed at most west Michigan Holiday Inn Express and this one is the worst of the group.

We've been coming to the area for an annual event for years. Got tired of staying at the old, beat up hotel that shares the parking lot, so we decided to stay here this time. Just as bad. We booked a king suite and upon getting to the room, we found 2 queens. Went back to get the right room, and was told there were no other rooms. Ended up getting Christine (the manager) who tried a bait & switch. First she told us there were no king rooms, but could "upgrade" us to a king suite for an additional fee. Then, when I showed her the confirmation that I paid for a king suite, she had one. Amazing! However, what I had to do to get the room I actually booked and paid for was horrible. But wait, there's more! We get to the room and it was dark and dingy with old, worn furniture. There was only one bar of soap in the bathroom and no soap dish in the shower; the piece had broken off and was never fixed. The tub was cracked, and there was a smell in the room and around the hotel. Our friends were next door and had a similar experience. It's obvious that the owner knows there are not many places in the area and doesn't put any money in the hotel. Based on our experience with the staff, I don't think he pays them well either, because they are not accomodating and don't really care. When I first went to the desk, the agent said "we don't have any more rooms" and when I asked for the manager, she just pointed to a woman (not Christine) in the lobby and said something like "there she is". We've do a significant amount of travel (over 50 nights this year so far) and this is the worst Holiday Inn we've ever stayed in. Find another hotel in the area, even if it means you need to drive.

Overall cleanliness. Some maintenance- bathroom room doesn't lock, floor near tub about to fall in, slow drain. Computer in Business Center is not functional King bed for 4 adults with little solution. Only made beds , bottles still left on floor No replenished shampoo/conditioner/soap/towels Old dirty rugs Rusted out toilet Air didn’t work in first room - room that was reserved (2 queens) was not available at check-in. They “accommodated” us with a king room but due to poor condition of the pullout, we moved rooms the second day. To make things easier for the hotel to clean, we left our room before 11am and they said they’d call while we were at lunch to let us know when the new rooms was ready; by 7pm when we returned they had not called us but the room had been ready for several hours - no pullout sheets or blankets were in the room, even though they made us wait an hour to prepare it for us - the elliptical in the gym was not working; treadmill and bike need tuneups - equipment wipes were all dried out - no more in building - trash on the staircase (including cigarette butts) was swept into a pile on a step but left there for several days - overall unpleasant hotel smell - what was that?! - overall cleanliness was disappointing. Sinks not fully clean, mini fridge very dirty, hair and stains on towels, carpet not clean, etc. The managers are not helpful and refuse to provide any type of real resolution or compensation for the horrible stay for a group for 4+ nights
