Rachel was really welcoming, giving tea and cake as we arrived. And when two of her guests arrived very late, having got lost, she even provided food. Her knowledge and love of the Lake District was extensive and profound. Our best accommodation on the Cumbrian Way

Excellent overnight whilst walking the coast to coast. Lovely characterful BnB Rachel very warm and friendly. Rooms comfortable if not a little old fashioned but spotlessly clean. Shared bathroom not a problem as other house guests also ladies. no wifi but not a problem. Lovely breakfast and packed lunch would stay again

We were worried about the shared bathroom but this proved not to be a problem at all. Rachel gave us a wonderful warm welcome with tea and biscuits and introduced us to Pip, the lovely parrot. Gave helpful advice about where to have dinner that evening.

Rachel is lovely but very set in her ways. Our second day on C2C. She dried our coats and boots and took our lunch orders for the following day, sharing the toilets and shower between six was not an issue. Not having access to tea/coffee in our rooms was. Many of us discussed this later in the day. Our room... More

When walking the Coast to Coast we were rather dreading the occasional B&B which has no en-suite bathrooms, however this one did not prove to cause a problem mainly due to Rachel the owner being highly experienced and well organised.Apart from the large bathroom with plentiful supply of fresh towels there is a separate toilet and we had a wash basin... Nice B&B is lovely location with gorgeous views. Dinner is about 5 minute walk to local hostel, which was fun and a nice change of pace. B&B is spotless. Our bedroom was tiny but comfortable. Shared bathrooms but since two were available there was never a wait and we did not have any issues with noise during the night. Breakfast... More

A very comfortable bed and breakfast in a beautiful location with lovely gardens run by hostess Rachel whom we found to be direct, welcoming and interesting to chat to. The house is run smoothly and breakfast which was served as a communal breakfast was very tasty and sufficient. A packed lunch option is also available. No wifi which for us... More

A warm welcome from a local, knowledgable hostess who is experienced in outdoor activities. It was a 10 minute walk to the pub for dinner. No wi-fi available, but the hospitality and the breakfast exceeded our expectations. Comfortable bed, pleasant outlook. Hostess Rachel is unforgettable. Magical gardens on the property.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Gillercombe. Our wet boots and coats were magically whisked away and dried while we weren't looking, breakfast was delicious and Rachel is a font of local knowledge and stories. Just the job!

I see one review here criticising the owner. I have to say, our experience was quite the opposite. She was extremely friendly and welcoming. Having said that, she's a direct Cumbrian who worries about the safety of her guests and of the local mountain rescue team and I can see how some people could take her manner in the wrong... More

“Rooms are very small here and at many of the B&B while on the C2C! Pack as light as you can! It is amazing how often you can get laundry done for 5pounds a load. If you use the laundry services and take fewer things you will be much happier!”
