Overall, a pleasant stay over a pre-holiday weekend and I would return for a future visit, even if this is not my favorite hotel brand. Decor appears to be competitive with boutique hotels along the lines of a Hilton. We stayed 2 nights under 2 different reservations, both rooms were clean and minimalistic in feel. The hotel is in Brighton but location off US 23 serves Whitmore Lake, Michigan. Tip: if you are wary of getting off the freeway at Lee Rd./exit 58 due to the 3 roundabouts at the overpass (whatever idiot designed that at an area near a resort area with weary travelers should have been fired), take exit 55/Silver Lake Road and drive up from the south along the access road instead. Amenities: - We arrived in a moderate rainstorm and the television only worked for a few minutes before it went out for the night. The television suggested calling the front desk if we had any issues and the reception clerk was very responsive, going to our room to reboot the connection, but to no avail. - The Wi-Fi worked no problem throughout the whole storm so we watched television programming that way. - Good-size refrigerator for a hotel, also had a microwave. - The fitness room had basic machines and no water dispenser. The elliptical was good but its television was out due to the storm, same as in the room. - The small indoor pool was nice after 9 p.m. when the large group of children left. The pool itself was lit by an alternating rainbow of colors, was only about 5’6” deep, and had a lane for swimming. There were a few lounge chairs and tables at one end of the room, a shower at the other, and a large bathroom. - No ice machine on the 1st floor, had to go to the 2nd floor elevator area to use that one (not a big deal once they told me where it was at). - The room door from the corridor has a brush strip along the bottom to keep the light out, but the corridor sound made its way through. The Comfort Inn/Sleep Inn walls/doors (competing hotel brands) do a better sound-proofing job. - Shower only in our 1st floor room first night, shower/tub combo next night on the 3rd floor. Water-saving shower head was okay for basic showering but I had to use the sink in both rooms to rinse the shampoo out of my hair, and I use a diluted shampoo that is easily rinsed out in a normal shower. - All hotel soap/shampoo was Dove moisturizing liquid soap/shampoo in large dispensers locked in place. I know other hotel brands say large dispensers are good for the environment, etc., but I hate all the liquid moisturizing soaps/shampoos and prefer good ole bar soap and my own shampoo. Fortunately, I had a partially-used bar of soap from another hotel and my own shampoo. Water was warm enough. - The hot breakfast included in your stay is one reason to stay here. They had cheese omelettes, egg white veggie omelettes, link sausage, turkey sausage, make your own pancakes, cold and hot cereal, hard-boiled eggs, several flavors of Greek yogurt, fruit, and a few items I’m forgetting, plus coffee, tea, juices, and milk. On the first morning, dh went down first and had the cheese omelette and sausage links; by the time I was ready to eat 15 minutes later, all I found was egg white veggie omelettes (okay), turkey sausage (did not try), hard-boiled eggs (ate these for protein, they were fine), Greek yogurt (surprisingly good), cereal (Frosted Flakes with milk was a nice contrast), and fruit that I did not try. The second morning, we were in a hurry to make an early flight so we ate early and I tried the cheese omelette and sausage just to get something in me in a hurry. They were okay but honestly, that Greek yogurt on the first morning had the most flavor. - Staff was friendly and attentive overall but perhaps understaffed. …
