Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a room in Poolside. It was cold on our arrival, and the slow heating system took a long time to heat it up. It seems as if the room had not been occupied for some time and smelled it The TV was not functional and the desk clerk was not able to help, but did send some one the see if it could be fixed. After quite a bit of fiddling he was able to get it working. We were able to get hot water from the bathroom sink but in the morning we learned that the shower was unable to produce any hot water. We did have a good takeout meal from the Pub, but overall the experience was far from what we expected.

My Email to 1896 House Inn: Manager/Owner, We visited your inn on October 3. 2023. Our reservation number was XXXXXXXXXX. On Oct 4, 2023 at 7:00 AM. I began to take a shower. I turned on the hot faucet, but no hot water was available. I ran the hot water for 20 minutes. No hot water was available. In addition, the water pressure fluctuated from forceful to a simple trickle of water. At 7:29 AM, I left a voice-mail to the front desk number advising the inn of my hot water experience and asked to be called back on my personal cellphone (XXXXXXXXXX) A few minutes after 8:00 AM. a person from the inn called me on the house phone. They advised that they were aware of the issue and would call me when the problem was corrected. I advised that we probably would be leaving at 9:00 AM. They advised us to be patient and that the problem should be corrected soon. At 9:10 AM, I stopped at the front office and dropped off our key. I advised that person that we still had not been able to use hot water. I asked for the managed to call me on my personal cellphone. I asked the person who took our key if there would be any compensation for the lack of hot water. They said they would contact the manager about my request. In the afternoon of Oct 4, 2023, I left another voice-mail for the inn manager to call me. END OF EMAIL As of Oct 9, 2023, 7:06PM, I have not been contacted by a representative of the 1896 House Inn. My request is that the manager or owner of the 1896 House respond to this email and to call me on my personal cellphone. I have since left several messages for a return call. None to this time. I was able to get in touch with someone at the front desk on Oct 9 @11:11 AM and left a message for the manager Josh( whom I was informed is the manager) to contact me. Still no return communications. Hence, their customer service is not very good. My experience is that it is non-existent. I have yet to have anyone form 1896 House Inn to apologies for our inconvenience or show any remorse or regret for their failure. My review of the property is that it seems left unattended. Leaves and mud puddles greeted us as we arrived. The suite (205) that we were assigned was indeed dated. It was clean; that is really the only positive experience. The furniture was in need of updating. The main couch was faded and worn. They used two twin bed frames and springs for the base of a king-size mattress. We could not get our furnace to raise the temp over 69 degrees. We did use the gas fire place for some heat. As is mentioned in the email earlier, we had no hot water during our stay. Water pressure was erratic at best; sometime good pressure, other times no pressure. The attached photo of the walking bridge is proof evident that the 1896 House Inn website has not been updated for many years. I would advise any traveler considering 1896 House Inn to not contact or visit this establishment. Respectfully, James

My family member did a bed check on arrival. Live bug on mattress pad. He wasn't sure if it was a bed bug. Took a picture and went to front desk. They identified it as a flea. Fleas carry disease, and no one wants flea bites. Said he wasn't staying there. Requested a refund, which they refused to give, even when Travelocity management tried to intervene. Terrible customer service, and fleas. Stay away!

There are two conventional motels one on either side of Route 7 and one set of “luxury” units (gas fireplace and Jacuzzi tub). Obviously for more money. The options were not made clear to me when I made my reservation. The rooms are oddly decorated at least to me. And both the heat and running water were problematic until I complained.

Booked online before seeing the place. The website is misleading. The place is basically a couple of dated motels next to a good restaurant. The 6 had great food! The rooms are no smoking, but people were smoking on the patios out front and the smoke went into the rooms with the windows and doors closed. The rooms were relatively clean and everything seemed to work. Okay basic place to stay. There are better options in the area. My suggestion is to shop around.

Dark, dank, 1950ish room. Musty. Clean room, decent bed, thin hard pillows. Great TV was the only plus. Plastic flowers in front. In desperate need if grounds keeper. Broken stone walkway! Not one thing resembled photos you see. Lights in room are missing over bed, minimal, tiny lighting adding to dinginess. No patio or terrace as advertised. Just a tiny back window with air conditioner blocking light. ,Extremely dismal despite being a bright beautiful day outside. The air and fridge do work, though fridge is minuscule. No microwave, though told there was one when I called ahead. $500 for 3 nights and up charged $35 for moving res. up by one day. Beautiful area, many more optimal properties. Live and learn. as avid travelers, should not have trusted deceitful photos. Shame on us and them!

An awful experience; unfriendly MOTEL staff; doubled our price at check-in. TV didn't work and refrigerator stopped working costing us loss of food. No one at front desk on numerous occasions. Rude staff. I am reporting this location to better business bureau and my credit card company for improper conduct handling business transactions.

We visited the area for two nights and were joined by another couple on the second night. We stayed in two different sections of the property and had two opposite experiences, so please read the title of the review. I can only rate our experience. You need to pay attention to what room you are booking. We stayed in room 204, which is the Victorian Suite (The suites are in a separate building). That being said, we were delighted. The suite was huge, clean, and beautifully decorated. There was a working gas fireplace, a minifridge, and a spa tub (the hot water was actually too hot, so you need to be careful with that). We had no problems with the wifi. The pub was open for dinner only and we did not avail ourselves of that. No breakfast was being served, but we were given the names of two local diners. We were happy with the Moonlight Diner in Williamstown (on a Friday morning) but both diners were too crowded on Saturday, so we went to Bailey's Bakery in North Adams. Our only real problem was the icy conditions in the parking area, which in all fairness would be difficult to manage with all of the melting and refreezing that was going on. I would definitely consider staying again, but only if I could book a suite at a reasonable price. I got a really good deal on Booking.com so I considered this a win.

We visited the 1896 House Country Inn in October 2022, upon a recommendation from an acquaintance. The inn was charming and location was great….close to area museums and sites; however, the room was dated with poorly working electrical outlets and, heck, we had to not so gently rid the room of bees! There was mold on the bathroom shower ceiling, too.

On the door to the office is a decal saying TripAdvisor Hall of Fame -not anymore. Do not stay here! We arrived on Sept 30 and several light bulbs were missing from the fixtures as well as knobs for the dresser. We found clothes from a previous occupant. Returning from dinner the thermostat was blank (non functional). In the AM the hot water was barely there. We reported all this to the "office" who replied that they would inform "management". We'd had enough and checked out. We asked for a refund for the second night of our weekend stay and were again told they would inform management who would get back to us. Despite repeated phone calls after 1 month we have yet to hear from "management". Interestingly several local friends when apprised of the story were not surprised. Too bad it has fallen so badly-we've enjoyed staying there for decades-but never again.
