North of Highland Camping Area, since 1954, is ideal for tenting, very family orientated, and has a short walking path through the "Cape Cod National Sea Shore" that leads you right to Head of the Meadow ocean beach. We have an on-site store, recreation room with fire place, pool tables & ping pong, library, laundromat, rest rooms, hot showers, and a playground (with parental guidance). You can come here to camp in the midst of all of the naural beauty of Cape Cod. Pitch your tent or tent trailer in the shade of our pine trees and easily walk to the beach every day of your relaxing vacation getaway. Yet we are still less than 10 minutes by car from bustling Provincetown and Wellfleet with plenty of shops, restaurants, art galleries and whale watching. To create a peaceful, safe environment for our guests we do NOT allow pets or motorcycles and we strictly enforce campground quiet hours 10:30 PM to 7:30 AM. Beach fires are allowed on the beach only in the evenings with a free permit.

Never in my life did I think of camping. Decided to come here after selling my home of 19 years. From the moment you meet the staff , you know you have made the right decision. Every single person that works here, goes out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect.

All and all I really liked this campground. By far the quietest campground I have ever been to in my life. The bathroom smelled like seawater at low tide but they still seemed clean. I know that sounds counterintuitive. The subject head "kinda pricey" was only for the fact that

Just returned from camping over labor day weekend. The site was completely full but we loved it because it was so quiet and peaceful. I am so tired of being kept awake by noisy neighbors drinking and talking in loud voices so every word can be heard in our tent when we are all

I camped at North of Highland with my family for seven nights in August 2016 and we had such a great time that we did not want to leave. The Owner's are very thoughtful about how they run the campground. There are notices posted to clearly communicate the rules of the

If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful, clean camping experience, with spacious and well thought out pine-covered sites close to the beach, then this is your campground. This place is so professionally run that it's the first time since I was a kid that I felt the joy of

Response from Greg C, Manager at North Of Highland Camping Area
Responded 2 Aug 2016
Jesse, Thank you for sharing your experience! We are thrilled to read that your recent stay with us brought back the "joy of camping" and has actually inspired your young family to come out camping some more. Hearing comments like yours brings a smile to our faces and is a big part of what helps to keep us motivated to carry on the tradition that my grandparents began at North of Highland over 60 years ago. We strive to provide the kind of campground that we would want want to bring our own kids and family back to every summer. We can't wait to have you join us again soon!

The path was wide and clean and easy to navigate with a Wonder Wheeler.
North of Highland is primarily focused on tent camping and smaller tent trailers and camper vans. The campground has a limited number of campsites for mid-sized trailers that have electric and water hookups. These sites may be reserved for the entire camping season May 24 to September 9 with a 25% discount, but are not rented on just a nightly or weekly basis. Please email us if you wish to check on the availability of our seasonal sites.

Any recommendations on where to rent bikes close to here?
There are a number of reputable bicycle rental businesses nearby, and at least two of them deliver bikes to the campground regularly. Idle Times Bike Shop has shops on Rt 6 in both Wellfleet and Eastham and both delivers and picks up from the campground (508-255-5070). Little Capistrano Bike Shop in Wellfleet does so as well (508-255-6515). The Bike Shack at 63 Shank Painter Road in Provincetown seems to be the least expensive option allowing guests to park at their facility while riding bikes in and around P-Town.

We have a variety of campsites at varying distances to the bathrooms. We have four separate sections in our campground with a bathroom building centrally located in the middle of each of the areas. So some campsites are conveniently very close to bathroom facilities, with the closest being about 50 feet away and the furthest being perhaps 200 yards or meters away. All sites are comfortably walkable to restrooms, but I would suggest that whenever you make a reservation that you include your preference to be near the bathrooms if that is a concern for you. On a related note, we also have some more remote campsites that we call "path sites", where in order to access the campsite you would take a short walking path down into the site from where you park your car. These sites can be very secluded and private, but I would probably not recommend them for your particular needs as they would require a flashlight to navigate the walking path at night.

Sorry for the delayed response, am just seeing your question today. We have lots of more remote campsites. Most of our sites are sprinkled along the higher ground contours of the property, so the campsites on the outside edges of the loops frequently have pretty overlooks of the valleys surrounding them with pine trees. The Cape Cod National Seashore Park surrounds our property, so many of the outside facing campsites are abutted against the National Park itself with pine forest running the entire length of the site. We also have a number of "path sites" where guests would park their vehicle in a designated parking spot, then take a short walking path 30-90 feet back down into the campsite itself. These sites tend to be some of our most private campsites, but may not be as convenient to access your car or the restrooms. Feel free to view our camp map on our website and get a sense of the foliage with GoogleEarth.

Is there cell phone coverage at the campgrounds/along the beach? Thank you.
Yes, for being this close to the beach we do still get fairly good cell reception here, depending upon your cellular carrier. Verizon has the best signal, AT&T is pretty good also, but Sprint is less effective. In the campground we also provide an Adult Quiet Room where you can charge your telephones and mobile devices for free.
