The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but the "hot" water in the shower was only lukewarm at best. More concerning: In the morning, as we were getting breakfast and preparing to check out, we were surprised to see that only one of the six employees we encountered—front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance—wore a face covering. When I asked why, the staffer at the front desk told me that some employees had medical conditions that prevented them from wearing masks. This is unfortunate, but it is also unfortunate that hotel guests might be exposed to greater risk of COVID infection as a result. At other Super 8s where I've stayed in the past few months, the staff has been very diligent about wearing masks. I wish I'd known that the Portland, Maine Super 8 was so lax about face coverings in the workplace; I would have stayed elsewhere.

This place is very basic, but comfortable and clean. The review is not so much of the property at the front desk staff. Lule was patient with a lobby full of guests checking in, kind, and always adorable and smiling. She made an unremarkable please much more pleasant. Give her a raise… She deserves it!

Great place to crash if you're on a budget and out of options. The room was clean, beds aren't the most comfortable but did the job. Decent continental hot and cold breakfast. The staff was not the warmest but they did their job.

We travel quite a bit and my policy has always been to try to save money whenever & wherever I can when it comes to accommodations but I think I'm going to have to rethink that in the future. After spending a few days in Bar Harbor I had booked this hotel for 3 nights before heading home to MD but trust and believe that when we visit Bar Harbor next year I'll skip Portland completely. The clerks at the front desk were very nice so when they told me that they had put me in room 102 because it was by the door for our dog I was grateful, yeah WAS. Turns out this is the noisiest area of the hotel and I swear all hours of the day and night it sounded like a football team stomping up and down the steps and God forbid you try to walk out that door, you're instantly besieged with cigarette smoke even though signs clearly state that smoking is to be done away from the building. The trash and cigarette butt cans were overflowing the entire time we were there and I never saw any maintenance person taking care of the grounds. The sign on the door also clearly stated that the door automatically locks at 10:30 but that never happened. The vanity in the bathroom was disintegrating and there were so many cracks in the sink basin I'm surprised there wasn't a puddle on the floor. The door is "secured" with an old school chain, not very safe or sturdy and the walls and ceilings are paper thin, I could hear everything. On our 2nd day there all of a sudden the cable went out along with the internet and it did not come back on until after 1pm the next day. I went to the front desk to see about how they planned on compensating people for the inconvenience and Shay (the only good part about our stay was Shay, very competent and kept her cool while everyone was flipping out) came by our room that night to inform me I would receive a $30 credit. The longer we were there the more it started to seem like this hotel is used for housing homeless people, dirty, disgusting old man with morning wood proudly walking around outside for all to see then leering at everyone in the kitchen area a bit later and cars filled to the gills with personal belongings, this was clearly a lesson learned, you get what you pay for. Our entire last night of our vacation in Portland was spent doing nothing, the rain outside left us little option but to stay indoors doing absolutely nothing because of cable & internet being out. The 3 times I tried to get ice there was none and nearly every item in the vending machines was sold out. The next day the front desk couldn't even give me a receipt and I had to demand a handwritten one verifying we checked out a day early. Trust me, pinch your pennies elsewhere and opt for a non section 8 voucher taking, old, filthy hotel. Wyndham really needs to step up and just raze this place, its unsalvageable.

Not a bad place for an overnight for a conference. Basic room, clean. Bed was comfortable. Quite a bit more reasonably priced than the hotel where the conference was held! There was a smoke odor in the entry and stairway at the end of the building but it did not carry over into the room that I was in.
