This is a very nice old home located right downtown across the street from the main section of town. The owner Gretchen is a delight and worth the stay just to talk with her during breakfast. The bedrooms are spacious and clean, and the rooms have a private bath that is located across the hall from the room.

I'm always pleased when my guests enjoy my older home as much as I do. It is ideally located in town and after a day of touring in Acadia being able to walk to a variety of restaurants is a bonus in itself.

Our three night stay at Penury Hall was very relaxing and comfortable. With just three guest rooms, Gretchen, the Innkeeper made us feel right at home. Her cinnamon french toast, herb scrambled eggs and eggs benedict were delicious! She provided suggestions for our primary interests of hiking (views from Mansell Mtn with descent on Perpendicular Trail were awesome!) and kayaking...

My boyfriend and I were traveling to Maine to celebrate my birthday. We were looking for a more laid back area to avoid mass crowds of people and Southwest Harbor was perfect. It was quiet but also close to everything - restaurants, hiking, shopping, etc. We absolutely LOVED Gretchen. Instantly her home felt like ours as well. The room was...

Southwest Harbor is a cute little town full of great restaurants and interesting shops as well banks, a grocery store, etc - but not the HORDES of tourists that Bar Harbor has. Penury Hall is full of art, and Gretchen, the owner and hostess has very good taste. The bedrooms are comfy, as are the beds. We had the admirals's...

You may think the beauty of Penury Hall is its fabulous location so close to restaurants and shops, or it's substantial breakfast that makes you feel you can skip lunch, but the real beauty of the B&B is Gretchen, the owner, who knows everything about the island and is eager to share her insider's information with you. What a wonderful experience staying with Gretchen at Penury Hall, so coveniently placed, with restaurants, food shops , cafes and shuttle bus stop within yards of the house, but on the quieter side of the island, away from bustling Bar Harbour.A home full of colourful and fascinating artworks and furnishings of all kinds, all of which have a story behind...

Penury Hall is an ideal base for the many activities offered in Acadia National Park. Some of the beautiful hiking is just minutes from the inn. Gretchen is a gracious host with a wealth of tips and local knowledge. Her breakfasts are a great start to the day. Highly recommend.
