This was our second year celebrating Valentine's Day weekend in Portland. We thought our B&B was outstanding last year until we had the chance to stay at Danforth. What an experience. So professional and yet so comfortable. Room is neat and clean, bed was so comfortable we could have stayed in all day! Working fireplace in room was an added...

The Danforth is an old colonial brick building nestled into a rural neighborhood, just a few blocks from 100 places to shop and eat (stop by Bao Bao dumpling house, fantastic!). The architecture and aesthetics on the inside of the building are impeccable, a truly beautiful interior! The classic colonial building juxtaposed with the contemporary artwork and lighting throughout the...

The inn is elegant, warm and a bit eclectic in its decor. The staff was wonderful striking a balance of allowing privacy while being warm and helpful. Would love to come back in warm weather but winter stay was great.

This beautifully renovated inn is well worth a visit. The manager welcomed us, showed us around, carried our bags, and was generally very welcoming and helpful. The furnishings are stylish and elegant. Wonderful modern art everywhere, and stunning, tasteful, floral (faux)displays. Color schemes attractive and modern. Spotlessly clean. Our room was on the third floor, and well decorated. Large bathroom...

A very memorable stay at the Danforth. We wanted to experience the "original" Inn before the renovations take place, so happy we made the trip! The Inn is gorgeous, top notch in cleanliness and the attention to detail was phenomenal. I LOVED all the little details and decorations in our room. (Back Bay, which was wonderful!) We peaked in at...

Everyone was so welcoming and helpful! We called and they not only suggested a great restaurant to try, they were wonderfully helpful by making the reservation for us! The rooms had that New England charm to them and were very clean. We even had delicious chocolates on our bed at night. The breakfast the next two mornings were spectacular and...

We were hoping for a quiet, romantic weekend with a bit of old New England charm, and that is exactly what we got at the Danforth Inn. Our room, the Eastern Promenade, was so quaint and cozy, and having a fireplace topped it all off. Besides our room, the the billiards room was our second favorite spot in the Inn....

There aren’t enough wonderful things to say about the Danforth. We really enjoy Portland, and we decided to stay the entire weekend this time around for a romantic getaway. From the moment we arrived we were treated both graciously and respectfully by Bret and Ibby, who were each friendly and very personable. The morning of our arrival I received a...

Excellent Service from the moment we approached the door. The door was opened form the inside. We were offered help with our luggage and an umbrella. This excellence continued our entire visit. Breakfast every morning began with a personalized menu. Each menu had our name on it. We were also offered other options for breakfast. Every meal was excellent. Every...

The Danforth Inn felt like our home away from home. Brett is incredibly accomodating and knowledgeable about the area; he suggested two restaurants for dinner that were both fabulous and within an easy stroll of the inn. The inn itself has great character with a billards room in the basement and an accessible widows walk with nice views of the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Danforth is the grande dame of the Portland, Maine boutique hotel scene. Built in the 1800's, extensive renovations to design and (mostly) new bathrooms have married historic gentility with classic but contemporary stylings. Basement billiard room, a widow's walk with views, three course breakfasts - who could ask for more? A recent review called The Danforth an historic mansion with a hip vibe. ... more   less
