Monhegan Island is a great place to chill out for a few days away from the hustle and bustle of normal society, and the Monhegan House is a friendly place to say. While the bathroom facilities are not in-room, the general facilities are well maintained, and the hotel is spotless and well-organized. You do need to walk from the ferry...

We stayed at the Monhegan House for 2 nights in July. We had a double bed room without a bath. The room was sparse and small but we knew that before and felt it was the authentic experience. The bath down the hall was immaculate, convenient and completely private. No problem there at all. We enjoyed meeting other travelers and...

Spent one night in a ground floor suite with own bath and shared deck. Beautiful water views with breezes blowing through the open windows with lace curtains. Laid back place with no door keys. No TVs to distract from the ambiance. Guests congregate in the common areas reading books or playing board games. Some rooms on second and third floor...

Somewhat unique on a small island, Monhegan House could be a good place for couples or families to stay but it is also a good place for singles. It has eight single rooms built in the dormers on the top floor. It has many larger rooms on the floors below, too. These rooms are so small that they have only...

I've spent a week every September for 10 years now (wow!). The MH is a comfy warm inn with wonderful food and cozy down comforters for chilly nights (sleep with window open!) that is a perfect island retreat. Holden the Innkeeper has done an amazing job updating and improving the MH and care taking this lively old building. This is...

I hadn't been to the Monhegan House since 2005, and the upgrades were noticeable. The bathrooms especially were great quality and immaculate. The employees go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and despite the lack of locks on the door, we had no problems with safety or theft. We were right over the...

I spent a night at the Monhegan House, a sublime experience. I had a cozy top floor room which had a meadow view and could see the island lighthouse from my window. Breakfast in included in your stay, this is a low-tech (no TVs) hotel with a sitting room stocked with books and board game; complimentary coffee and tea available....

I was concerned about sharing facilities but there were 2 toilets with sinks on our floor and additional facilities one flight down so there was never a time where one had to wait. The rooms are furnished very roughly, floors could use some buff & shine, I thought it was expensive for what you get. The no locks seemed strange...

This is our best stay in our travel along the Maine coast. Good old atmosphere, clean room and comfortable rest and shower room, which even shared. Good breakfast. I liked the rocking chairs in front of the house. Tips; Try to get the small mail boat from Port Clyde, named Laura B. You can experience ordinary life of the island...

I was delighted to be able to stay here in early September 2013. I went by myself (artists bucket list) to paint and experience Monhegan Island. I had a small room on the top floor. Very clean and comfortable with a great view of the lighthouse (when we weren't socked in w/fog!). I was a little concerned about the bathrooms...
