I accompanied a group of 10 other cross country skiers to AMC's Gorman Chairback Lodge over President's Day weekend and found the lodge, staff and amenities to be superb. The food was great (a full turkey dinner) along with a superb list of local Maine...More
Skied to Gorman Chairback Lodge from amc's Litle Lyford lodge. Found a friendly staff ready to accommodate at a moments notice. This is a winter wonder land of unforgettable charm with food that won't disappoint.
While still a rustic hut experience, Gorman Chairback takes it up notch! Fresh linens on the bed, warm fire started for our arrival...it was and always is, a lovely stay! The food was delicious and plentiful, the staff accommodating and helpful--they even gave our daughter...More
If you are into winter, cross-country skiing and/or snowshoeing - this is an experience not to be missed. This was my 5th annual winter trip to Gorman Chairback and it was spectacular, as always. The cabins are lovely and I admit to springing for the...More
Nothing short of excellent. This was our 5th winter trip to Gorman and the team there is fantastic. Kudos to Brent and croo (yup CROO) for everything. I have dietary restrictions and they just seemed to get, better than most 5 star restaurants. Nathan, the...More
I can't say 100% but the black flies are typically late June/early July. I don't think you should have a problem in Sept. But might make sense to call the AMC hut and ask. I just did a hut to hut x country trip... More
I can't say 100% but the black flies are typically late June/early July. I don't think you should have a problem in Sept. But might make sense to call the AMC hut and ask. I just did a hut to hut x country trip with 20 women and it was incredble. We started at a parking lot, skiied into Little Lyford, then the next day skied to Gorman and then last day skiied out. In the summer, you can drive directly to Gorman which was the prettiest because its on a big lake. Lots of day hikes to do from there. We liked cabin 7 the best...at the end, beautiful views of lake. The hut transferred our luggage each day so we didn't have to carry. Call Gorman and ask them directly for suggestions. Awesome place!!!!
